TheMadDruid shares a significant milestone in his collecting journey: the reacquisition of four watches he previously regretted selling. This post highlights the emotional connection collectors have with their timepieces and the satisfaction of completing a 'grail' quest. His latest find, a platinum A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, is presented as the pinnacle of this endeavor, inviting the community to compare it with his former rose gold version.

The last 4-5 years I have been tracking down watches I was foolish enough to let go, for some (probably stupid) reason. Three years ago I found my "Phil Hill" GP/Ferrari Chrono. Last year I found my "Scuderia Ferrari" Foudroyante a Rattrapante. And earlier this year I found a Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer, 38mm. In each case I managed to replace like for like-steel PH with cream dial; Yellow Gold/Black dial Scuderia Ferrari; steel case/steel bracelet Marine Chronometer with porcelain dial.
I have now replaced the 4th-and final-watch I let go which I regretted about a minute after doing so.

But there is a difference with this one: my original Dato was a RG/silver dial model. While I really appreciated that watch when I had it I find this platinum version to be "par excellence". What do you think?
Cheers,     Mike

P.S. The weather is lousy so no Blomman shots. I promise stones and sky soon.

You did very well. The Dato first generation is an icon.

And in platinum, even better. Congratulations, my friend. Nicolas

Agree

It's my grail, one of the watches i love the most. Perfect size, biga date, the smoothest pushers i've ever tried. Platinum is the cherry on top. As a friend of mine uses to say, Dato is one of those watches you don't know which side to put on ;-)
