DonCorson provides an insightful first look at Armin Strom's novelties from BaselWorld 2013, focusing on the new automatic micro-rotor "Gravity" and the series versions of their tourbillons. His report highlights the brand's commitment to in-house manufacturing and the continuous improvement in their decoration and dial finishing. This post offers valuable early impressions of Armin Strom's evolving craftsmanship and design philosophy.

BaselWorld 2013 : Armin Strom

Armin Strom showed their new automatic micro-rotor the "Gravity" and the series versions of their new tourbillon.
As for all their models they are available in 4 decoration versions, Air, Water, Earth and Fire.

The Gravity is movement is based on the one week movement with its double barrel.  The space of one of the barrels is dedicated to the micro-rotor.  The winding is uni-directional, the pawls and rachet on the rotor axle.   As with all the Armin Strom movements the magic is all visible from the dial side.

Armin Strom is continuing their path, determinedly expanding their model line, advancing in their desire to be a completely in house manufacturer.  Their decoration gets better each year, the dial finishing in particular has made a big leap since I last saw them last year.

The watches from Armin Strom are worth a good hard look.

I would love to see a deep review. I'm always curious to see how efficient is the winding of a micro rotor. For sure is a brand to be folowed. Cheers, Nilo

Don, Thanks for the photo report. I'm a bit confused. You say micro-rotor automatic and indeed, the rotor can be seen in the front at 4 o'clock position. But the case back is engraved: 'Manual'........? In any case (sic) I like the dark metal case of the Gravity Earth but the movement engraving of Gravity Air; that does not exist. :-) Regards, MTF

Those are, of course, prototype movements in existing cases. I am sure that will all be cleaned up by the time it is really in production. Don

They display an obvious interest in the movements without being too delicate or busy (once they get the movements in the right cases, or the labeling sorted out) Thanks Don. Cheers Cazalea
