ThomasM shares his initial impressions of Audemars Piguet's 2014 SIHH novelties, noting a shift from revolutionary designs to a more evolutionary, comforting collection. His post highlights the white ceramic Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, which he finds particularly striking with its blue accents. ThomasM's candid thoughts offer a valuable snapshot of collector sentiment during a significant industry event.
In the past decade and a half, collectors and enthusiasts have come to expect blockbuster after blockbuster, year after year, each outdoing the previous and raising the bar.
Though at first the initial feeling after viewing the 2014 collection is one of a a muted somberness, more evolution than revolution, I can't say I am displeased.
There are certainly interesting, exciting new pieces, and ironically, AP is releasing new pieces in cool white just as I am going into my own white period (is that synchronicity or what? I luv ya guys!)
but overall the feeling is one of warm comfort...
It's great and exciting to run with a fast crowd, always seeking that new adrenaline rush and high, but sometimes, it is good just to spend quality time with good friends and family. That's my takeaway from this years novelties.
Keep up the good work, AP!

I expected this sort of year from AP. We are still in the phase of honing the core collections, strengthening the foundations. When you pull that white Porsche up to a stop light and everyone gazes over, do you have to floor it to show how fast it is? No, you don't, and it is the same thing with AP. They are in the envious position of being able to pump the gas pedal any time they want. And as you know TM, the tanks are being refueled, all of the components readied. It won't be long before AP la
I am a huge fan of the basics. I still think the AP Jumbo is the perfect watch. Best, JerryW
If RM is doing it with their Bubba Watson, AP should too. I'd love to try this puppy on. Thanks for sharing Thomas.
Hi, Babka, Not quite as good as trying on your wrist, but as close as I can help you... :-) Cheers, TM
You should get one Thomas, matches the white Porsche :-) Excellent combo.
