Salvator Mundi presents a detailed photo session exploring the Breguet Marine 5817ST on various leather straps, an option not standard for this model. This article offers valuable visual insights for collectors considering a leather retrofit, highlighting how different strap choices can transform the watch's aesthetic. Salvator Mundi's initiative to document these less-seen combinations addresses a common query within the community regarding versatility beyond the standard rubber.

The Reference 5817 represents Breguet's Marine Automatic collection in a 39mm configuration with precious metal construction. This reference positions itself within the brand's nautical-themed lineup as an automatic timepiece combining traditional marine aesthetics with contemporary proportions.
The 39mm case is constructed from 18k rose gold and features a fluted bezel design. A silver dial provides the face of the timepiece, protected by sapphire crystal. The automatic movement provides self-winding functionality, while the case construction offers water resistance to 100 meters depth.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a precious metal sports watch with marine-inspired design elements. The rose gold case material and fluted bezel treatment distinguish this reference within the Marine Automatic range. The 39mm case diameter provides contemporary wrist presence while maintaining versatility across different wearing occasions.
I actually prefer it over any sort of trinity watches...for me, probably the brand's history including historic figures that owned Breguet, altogether that's the extra factor for my affinity to this brand. Those marine models with the big data are simply very nice watches. I wish they would bring back the blue dial model from the past. Congrats on your great choices. y
I also love those Roman indices
I took original images from the Breguet website and did some mixing: Although it's only one perspective, I think one gets a good idea how this might look like on the steel models. (The 5817BA yellow gold can be ordered on a brown strap directly)
The black dial is super cool, and would be a nice contrast to my 5907 with silvered dial. However, the silvered Marine might be more versatile ...
It's funny: Before release of the new 5517 in 2018, the kinked lugs of the 5817 disturbed me a little bit. However, I always loved the guilloche pattern which looks like a vortex. Simply stunning! Now, one year since the presentation ot the 5517, I still don't get warm with the new model, but I totally changed my mind regarding the kinked lugs of the old one. Love them!
and the brown is nice too
