This looks amazing. I have had the chance to handle one of the other variants in-person and was really impressed. Iโ€™m excited to see how the brand develops once they introduce some complicated pieces.

Interesting tidbit from the hodinkee article:

I've heard some pushback at GPHG voting from independent watchmakers who thought Brette's pricing strategy was too aggressive. The feedback was that Brette's low prices misrepresented the actual cost of watchmaking at this level, which understandably could have a ripple effect on their businesses. Brette admits that the souscription pieces weren't profitable; call it a miscalculation or maybe even a business move to get attention. The current CHF 85,000 price tag represents a margin for him that will ensure long-term success and budget to create that team to maintain the success.

Good for consumers like us of course, though perhaps not so good for producers (in the short term). Long term, though, a lower price point is will strengthen demand across the board. The more people who see independents as accessible, the better. And like you, I was captivated by one of SB's watches when I got to handle it in person last year.

But let's look at this from 30k feet in the air. $85k CHF is still a lot of money for a watch. So for other industry leaders to be upset that he is somehow selling the farm at this price is ridiculous. Are they upset that he exposing other's for the ridiculous prices they sell their watches for half the work? If so, let their be competition, forces other's to step up up their game. I remember when Lange did that with the Datograph and Patek had to respond by making some of their chrono movements

To which extent is the finishing that important? Don't forget that this one, like many others independent watches, is a time only. 10 years ago having many tourbillons was the key factor, today the finishing level is the new trend, but who will be here in the next 10 years? IMHO it's always a balance between complication, finishing and overall aesthetics. I know there's a lot of manual work made by watchmakers like Luc Monnet, but then why not ask for a piece unique by himself?

I think it's REALLY cool being able to pick any part of a watch, and just keep "digging" to find amazing details. It's worth a big premium to me. In the 6 figure USD range, I like getting some complications thrown in there too, like with the Logical1. Which is time only but has the insane fusee and chain which I kind of count as a complication. Coming back to this specific watch, I absolutely love the design and level of finishing. The gold one I got to handle was incredible in-person. Very comp
