damianp, a prominent collector, shares his journey with the Bulgari Octo Finissimo, detailing why this modern icon has become his preferred timepiece. His pursuit of a collection of eight Octo Finissimo watches highlights the model's diverse appeal and its unique position in contemporary watchmaking, moving away from vintage re-editions. This article explores damianp's specific preferences within the Octo Finissimo line and the community's engagement with his distinctive collecting philosophy.
So, the Octo has become my go-to watch over the past two years. And I think I'll get to own 8 of them at some point. I love that it's a very modern watch, but not over the top modern. I got a bit tired of brands always going back in time and doing reiterations / reinterpretations of old watches. That's also why I'm collecting the more modern versions of the Octo. Don't really like the versions with typical/vintage design elements like the Salmon/copper dial or the Philips one. But there are more versions than anyone can collect anyway
Key Points from the Discussion
- The first-generation Tadao Ando Octo Finissimo is a highly sought-after reference, with collectors considering it for its unique aesthetic, though some prioritize other models due to availability or personal preference.
- The Octo Finissimo's design, particularly its second iteration, offers a strong visual presence on the wrist, with different motifs evoking distinct moods, from playful to more serious.
- While the Octo Finissimo's complications like the Perpetual Calendar and GMT Chronograph are admired, their current iterations or size may not suit every collector's specific preferences or wrist dimensions.
- The Octo Finissimo is praised for its exceptional lightness, thinness, and comfort, making it a highly wearable watch for daily use.
- Many collectors share the sentiment of preferring modern watch designs over constant reinterpretations of vintage models, finding the Octo Finissimo to be a refreshing and forward-thinking choice.
- The Octo Finissimo's appeal is so strong that it often tempts owners of one reference to acquire additional models, aiming for a diverse collection within the line.
- Special editions, such as the UK limited edition 'Eight Days' model, represent highly exclusive opportunities for collectors seeking rare Octo Finissimo references.
