Brandon.c introduces a fascinating horological experiment: the Casio G-SHOCK G-D001, a piece unique co-designed with AI. This article delves into how Casio integrated AI-generated design elements into a physical timepiece, offering a glimpse into the future of watch aesthetics and manufacturing. Brandon.c highlights the watch's 18K gold construction and its charitable auction, underscoring its significance beyond mere novelty.
I haven't seen this posted many places, but I thought it was really interesting and wanted to share it.
I'm sure many of us have seen the crazy watch designs generated using AI tools like Stable Diffusion. Well, Casio is making a G-SHOCK that incorporates the exotic design elements commonly found in the watch images generated by the different AI models. Additionally, it is made of 18K gold (including the bracelet) and will be auctioned off for charity later this year.
Key Points from the Discussion
- The G-D001's dial successfully captures the often nonsensical, overly complicated aesthetic of AI-generated skeletonized designs while maintaining functionality.
- One collector expressed strong disapproval of the AI's design output, suggesting the programmer should be 'fired' and their computer 'confiscated,' indicating a polarizing aesthetic.
- Despite some negative reactions, at least one collector expressed strong admiration for the design, hoping it achieves a high sale price at auction.
- The thread also included visual contributions from users 'cazalea' and 'Mpower16', further illustrating the watch's unique design.
