At first I was interested in the 37mm Royal Oak (15450st) with its beautiful rotor decorated with the coats of arms of the Audemars & Piguet families. I also tried on the 38mm GP Laureato. And each time my preference went to the grey dial. Then I came to try on the Alpine Eagle and, once again, it's the grey dial which I loved: I guess this monochrome look just speaks to me. I was surprised at how the 41mm case was a perfect fit for my wrist and I loved the iris pattern of the dial and the Roman numerals, which give this "sports watch" a dressy look (I like that). I also loved the fact that the case, being 9.7mm thick, sits quite flat on the wrist. And, having these nautilus-like wings on each side it isn't only oriented accros the wrist but it also follows the length of the arm (I hope what I mean here isn't too obscure). Screw down crown, 100m water resistance, COSC caliber, availability and reasonable pricing finally convinced me it was the perfect choice for what I wanted. And indeed, what a great steel watch! One thing worth noting, though, is that, even if Lucent steel is supposed to be harder than regular steel, the polished center parts of each link of the bracelet are scratch magnets.

Have a nice Sunday!

I tell anyone who will listen - if you're considering a Rolex Submariner, PLEASE consider a Blancpain 50 Fathoms - the movement is just better and the cost ranges from $13,000 USD to $19,000 USD. Some people don't like the design of the case once the watch is on their wrist. Then I tell them to move on to the Chopard Alpine Eagle - at $14,000 USD, it's an amazing value and that bracelet is amongst the best in the business! And for those who still aren't convinced, I bring them to the Bulgari Oct

The AE is a wonderful piece to have in one's collection. In any color combination, the AE is wonderful to look at and enjoy.

That Chopard bracelet will also be the most expensive by far to manufacture among the set of watches I mentioned. That's an incredibly difficult bracelet to machine. The CNC machines have to be calibrated to the micron and fastidious checks by human hands will have to be done multiple times. And those machines will possibly need to be recalibrated constantly.
