In this captivating post, WatchProSite member sinkholeninja shares a stunning Chopard timepiece, sparking a discussion among collectors about the brand's distinctive design and horological prowess. Their choice highlights why Chopard's L.U.C collection continues to garner significant appreciation from enthusiasts worldwide. This thread delves into the specific attributes that make this particular reference a standout.

The L.U.C XPS represents Chopard's entry into serious haute horlogerie, launched in 1996 to mark the company's commitment beyond jewelry into manufacturing movements. The collection takes its name from Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the brand's founder, and established Chopard's manufacture credentials with the development of the L.U.C 96.01-L caliber in partnership with Michel Parmigiani's technical team.
This particular example showcases the XPS's defining characteristic: its 7.2mm case thickness that earned it the 'eXtra-flat' designation. The salmon-colored dial features Chopard's signature guilloché pattern radiating from the center, while the small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock maintains the classical proportions. The rose gold case construction and leather strap combination reflects the collection's positioning as a dress watch within the L.U.C portfolio.
The L.U.C XPS occupies a specific niche in the market for manufacture ultra-thin watches, competing directly with Piaget's Altiplano and Jaeger-LeCoultre's Master Ultra Thin. While not reaching the collector premiums of independent makers, well-preserved examples with desirable dial colors like this salmon variant have shown steady appreciation. The combination of in-house movement, classical proportions, and relatively modest production numbers positions the XPS as an accessible entry point into serious Swiss watchmaking.
…an amazing feat of engineering; a double stacked barrel with 65h of power reserve, arguably the best micro-rotor caliber in the industry at 4Hz with HDF of 14300 and only 3.3mm thick. One of Chopard’s crowning jewels.
Enjoy your Saturday! Best, Emmanuel
As I too am partial to dress watches
It is no secret I am a big fan of L.U.C Chopard and beautiful watches like this are why. I really love the design language Chopard uses for their hour markers and hands and who doesn't love a nice guilloche dial. Marc
the Quattro movement they have is higher on my wish list...in a perfect world I would have both. Glad to see this beautiful design and wonderful watches in Chopard family. Tomba
…I just don’t happen to like the hands and the modern logo in the current Quattro lineup. If they release a reference with the vintage logo like on the 1860, with sword hands, I’ll be considering it 👍🏻
