The 2016 "Oscars" or 88th Academy Awards Ceremony has come and gone littered with colourful controversy.
Chopard was there on the Red Carpet illustrating that when it comes to excellence, its not just about the colour but also the cut, clarity and quality.
It was a close run thing as both Saoirse Ronan and eventual Oscar winner, Brie Larson, gave engaging performances.
It is a quaint tradition for the presenter of a major award to be the winner of the previous year for the opposite gender.
Thus, we had 2015 Oscar winner, Julianne Moore, to present the Best Actor in a Leading Role award to Leonardo DiCaprio, wearing a diamond bracelet featuring 45.02-carats of diamonds set in titanium, diamond earrings featuring 12.67-carats of diamonds set in 18kt white gold and an emerald ring featuring a 14.89-carat cushion-cut emerald, 1.64-carats of diamonds and .67-carats of emeralds set in 18kt white gold – all pieces from the “High Jewelry Collection”. That's Julianne wearing the Chopard jewellery and not our boy Leo! 
American actress and Oscar nominee for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Joy), Jennifer Lawrence who selected a diamond necklace from the “High Jewelry Collection” featuring 47.35-carats of diamond beads set in 18kt white gold paired with diamond stud earrings, a “Copacabana” ring featuring 12.71-carats of diamonds set in 18kt white gold and a platinum ring set with brilliant diamonds from the “High Jewelry Collection”.
Irish actress and Oscar nominee for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Brooklyn), Saoirse Ronan selected earrings featuring pearls, 18.28-carats of emeralds, 5.74-carats of jadeites and 3.25-carats of diamonds set in 18kt white gold and an emerald and diamond ring featuring 4.19-carats of emeralds and 3.06-carats of diamonds set in 18kt white gold – both from the “High Jewelry Collection”.

German-Irish actor and Oscar nominee for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Steve Jobs), Michael Fassbender chose to wear Chopard's L.U.C XPS 39.5mm timepiece from the “L.U.C Collection” featuring a silver dial and 18kt white gold case and cufflinks featuring onyx in 18kt white gold.
I suspect that the real Steve Jobs did not have the same fine appreciation for things without batteries.

Some people are aghast when I mention gem-setting as one of the decorative arts applied to watches like enamelling and engraving. Their prejudice is that watch cases should be made of base metal (steel) and appreciated alone in a locked room with high powered magnification loupes. I think we can celebrate the decorative arts coupled with mechanical prowess, worn by artistic people in glamourous settings, in an erudite fashion. After all, these are beautiful objects made by man for the enjoyment
If I really end up buying an XPS, it's gonna be all your fault!=P
