Here is a watch that was overlooked during Baselworld 2016 amongst the excitement of the 40th Anniversary of Happy Diamonds watch and the 20th Anniversary of L.U.C Manufacture. Even as I wrote that, it seemed like an oxymoron because how could anyone miss seeing this splendid, daring and majestic creation? It is an exceptional culmination of the gemmological and horological Arts. Literally (not a word I use often), every colour of the rainbow is represented in an array of sapphires. Be captivated by the Chopard Imperiale Joaillerie Watch: Colours of the Rainbow
Gem-setting Artistry
After more than 1000 hours of precise work, the 581 sapphires are selected, cut, sorted and set into the watch. The stones total 47.98 carats in weight and are set in subtle graded shades from royal purple (the emblematic colour of the Imperiale collection) to anise green through an entire spectrum of blues, reds and yellows. If you think that you already have all the hues afforded by sapphires in your jewellery collection, this watch offers them all in one pulsating piece.
Please note that these are a full palette of the rarer baguette-cut sapphires, covering the entire dial, case and bracelet. The crown and lug-covers are adorned with amethysts. After all that adornment, this is still a precision watch with a Chopard self-winding mechanical movement at its heart.
A Chopard movement
Entirely developed and produced in the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches, the Chopard Group company which is devoted to industrial-scale movement production, the Chopard 01.03-C calibre powering the Imperiale Joaillerie beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hertz) and has a mainspring barrel ensuring an excellent 60-hour power reserve. The movement is proudly showcased through an exhibition case-back.
CONCLUSION
For that special 'empress' in your life, this Imperiale Joaillerie watch in rainbow colours perfectly symbolises the collection to which it belongs. It expresses power and self-assurance through its sculptural lines and yet the touch of femininity still shines through in the soft glow of its cloak of sapphires.
