Last month, during the SingaporeGP week, Mr Karl-Friedrich Scheufele came with his friend, Mr Jacky Ickx, who is also one of the legendary racing car drivers in the world to launch the Chopard's Jacky Ickx Chronograph 6/24 Edition V.

People into racing will know or hear about Jack Ickx, who is in the same league of other racing legends like Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss, Mario Andretti, to name a few.  Born in 1945 into a family of seven, his father, a famous automobile journalist, Jacques Ickx always brought him to weekend races.  Perhaps that was how Jacky Ickx developed the likings for speed.   Since his teen, he competed competitively and won in go-cart and motorcyle racings.  Eventually moving to motor-racing Formula 2 in 1967.  At the tender age of 23, in 1968, he entered Formula 1 race and clinched the French Grand Prix as Ferrari driver.

During his time on Formula 1 racing from 1968 to 1979, he took part in 116 Grand Prix races and won eight times.  However, Jacky Ickx, is above all well-known for his unmatched performance till today in the Le Mans 24 Hours.  He competed 15 times (from 1966 to 1983), and won 6 times in 1969, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1981 and 1982.

This gentleman raced at high speed during the time, which seat-belts were not even introduced, and many racers perished.  He himself had also a close-call during the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix.  He had a crash and his car was on fire and was later hospitalized with severe burns.  Within less than three weeks, he competed again.  This fearless indomitable spirit spirit has catapulted him to the worldstage of racing.

His passion for raw racing machines led him to the interest in Mille Miglia which he took part in 1989 (a year after Chopard started supporting and sponsoring the race).  Later both gentlemen got to know each other.  Ever since then, Mr Jacky Ickx and Mr
Karl-Friedrich Scheufele have been competing in Mille Migla race together.

The Watches - Jacky Ickx Edition V

These watches were designed with the inputs of Jacky Ickx, and since this series are about Jacky Ickx, the iconic theme is definitely about the enduring Le Mans 24 Hours which he won 6 times!  Thus this unique Chronograph is capable of measuring  24 hours instead of  the typical 12 hours.
Not only that it has flyback function too for fast timing.

The Jacky Ickx Edition V comes in either steel or rose gold casings, limited production to 2000 and 500 pieces respectively.

Firstly the 18K Rose Gold Edition V, Ref. 161286-5001  ....

The  Case dimension -  diameter is 42.4mm  while the thickness is at 14.2 mm.

Crystal is anti-reflective coated to reduce glare and easy viewing.

Large date display under 12H.

Sub-dial at 9H is the 60-minute totaliser, while the 6H is 24-hour totaliser.  Subdial 3H is the small-second.

The central hand is the chronograph second hand.

Pushers are designed to look like 'pistons' and also made of 18K gold.  Diameter is 6,0mm .

Tachometer scale is incorporated onto the bezel.

Crown is screw-down type and also made of 18K gold.  Diameter is 8.5mm .

Pulling the crown also hacks the small-second allowing precise time-adjustment.

Solid caseback with inscription of Jacky Ickx's signature and the numbered edition engraved.  Not forgetting the significant 6/24 which pays hommage to Jacky Ickx's 6 wins in the arduous Le Mans 24 Hours race.

Concealing inside the case is an automatic COSC certified Dubois-Depraz 44561 with bridges decorated with "Cotes de Geneve" pattern.
The power reserve is 40 hours and beating at 4Hz.

For the steel casing, the dial is black & white.

The rest of the dimensions and specs are per the gold piece above (except for the metal type) ...

Crown is signed with a steering wheel ...

Similar inscription as the gold version.

Looking at both them, which do you prefer?

Somehow, the Black & White (panda) dial in steel looks really good.  Best part, this chronograph could be a two-time zone should you wish to find a constant usage for the Chronograph smile

About the Fiat Ref. 1966

The 1966 Ford Mustang represents a significant year for the model, building on the initial success of its introduction. This reference is part of the first generation, which established the Mustang as a distinct category of American automobile. It continued to offer a range of body styles and engine options, allowing for considerable personalization and appealing to a broad market segment. The 1966 model year saw refinements rather than radical changes, solidifying its design language and market position.

The vehicle's construction typically featured a steel unibody chassis. Various engine configurations were available, including inline-six and V8 options, paired with manual or automatic transmissions. Specific dimensions varied slightly depending on the body style, such as coupe, convertible, or fastback. The interior offered a functional layout, with instrumentation focused on driver information.

This reference holds interest for collectors due to its place in the early history of the Mustang and its enduring popularity. The availability of different engine and trim levels means that specific examples can vary widely in their features and performance. It remains a recognizable and sought-after classic, often celebrated at automotive events worldwide.

Jacky Ickx has been my hero since as long as I can remember (I was watching and following F1 when I was before 10, but not now). I would REALLY love to see it in person and handle it. AND, I wish this type of Chopard event were held here (with Jacky Ickx, of course), too..... Thanks again for a wonderful report, Kong! Ken

Mr Ickx was in Singapore for the Singapore F1 Grand Prix as he is the Director of the Monaco F1 Grand Prix; the classic daytime F1 street circuit. The Singapore F1 Grand Prix is the first night-time street circuit in the World Championship series. Chopard was introducing the Jacky Ickx Chronograph 6/24 Edition V in S.E.Asia that week so it was a happy coincidence. I don't think that it will be the same coincidence for the Japanese F1 Grand Prix this year (9 Oct 2011). But there will probably be
