On 6th May 2017, Chopard continued to support Porsche Motorsport LMP1 team as official timing partner during the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
The Porsche 919 Hybrids, in low downforce configuration, finished 3rd and 4th in the last WEC race before the Le Mans 24-Hours, in front of 61 000 spectators.
The #2 car and drivers Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley lost time due to a slow puncture early in the race and then, a late change of front bodywork after a "racing incident" with the #36 Signatech Alpine at the Bus Stop chicane, to end the race in third place.

The #1 Porsche 919 of reigning world champion Neel Jani, André Lotterer and Nick Tandy started from pole position but was unfortunate with the timing of two “Full Course Yellow” periods that neutralized the race. They finished in 4th place.
After the second of nine rounds in the FIA World Endurance Championship, Porsche ranks 2nd in the constructors’ rankings. In the drivers’ world championship, the Porsche crews are currently 2nd and 3rd.
Chopard ambassador, Brendon Hartley, set the overall fastest race lap that demonstrated the 919 Hybrid’s potential.......
Chopard and the Porsche LMP1 Team have been honing the low downforce configuration for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and will campaign for victory.

Quotable Quotes:
Brendon Hartley – No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid, Porsche LMP Team - 3rd
“The Toyotas were definitely quick at the beginning and, with the hot temperatures, the balance was quite a lot different to what we had on Thursday and Friday. But it was actually quite a strong end to the stint and I passed André just before the pit stop. We were quite close to the #8 Toyota but the #7 was very hard to keep hold of today, and congratulations to them (Toyota).”
“The team did a really good job and we got another podium but just not the step that we really wanted, but we should have some good confidence going to Le Mans.”
Timo Bernhard – No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid, Porsche LMP Team - 3rd
“The puncture threw us back a bit and we should have been a bit closer. It is important to gather these points before Le Mans; last year after Le Mans, we had just 3.5 points and we are in a better position now. Two podiums is okay and we have good information for Le Mans where I am sure the fans will see a very, very close fight and it is one I am looking forward to.”
Le Mans
24 Hours of Le Mans is obviously very important to Porsche and Chopard as the venue for an unprecedented 18th Overall Wins for Porsche and the first time with Chopard as Timing Partner in 2016.
In 2016, at Le Mans, Chopard unveiled a new watch, the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition, a 100-piece limited series. Exclusively available in Chopard boutiques, this model proudly flies high the banner of the Porsche prototype 2016 by picking up its aesthetic codes and colours. The imposing 45 mm-diameter case is made in titanium – a material often used in the world of endurance racing for its ultra-light properties. With its sleek and sporty lines, it houses a ‘motor’ entirely produced and assembled in Chopard’s Fleurier Ebauches workshops for ultimate performances combining cutting-edge technologies and respect for the art of watchmaking: the Chopard Calibre 03.05-M. This mechanical self-winding chronograph movement delivers a substantial 60-hour power reserve and features a flyback function.

I have to say that I find WEC much more happening these days than F1...
Having done it a few times, I can vouch for the sheer exhaustion that is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. You have to deal with crazy Frenchmen. Traffic to Le Mans is bad so you have to travel by helicopter... All that champagne, food and partying...it's exhausting! Not to mention the actual race spectacle. There are no "luxury" accommodations; even the Chairman of Porsche has to go "glamping" in a 8 x 6 foot cubicle. (Glamping=glamourous camping) When you finally fall asleep for a few hours, invariably
You are right - it may be long and exhausting. But it is exciting at the same time, with so much going on at the same time. If you look at Spa, for instance, the winner was not completely clear until five corners before the finish - impressive for a 6 hour race
