Chronometer (aka yacomino) shares a common, yet often frustrating, experience for luxury watch owners: an extended service period. His post highlights the unexpected challenges that can arise even with modern timepieces, prompting a discussion on service center diagnostics and the ultimate resolution of a full movement replacement. This real-world account offers valuable insights into the after-sales care of high-end watches.
What I originally thought would be a very quick couple week turnaround at the service centre ended up being much longer. While the watch was running fine. I was no longer able to wind the watch using the crown only the movement of the wrisk or a watch Winder. I think the service centre struggled to find the issue for quite a long time and in the end, they decided to swap the whole movement for a brand new one which probably explain the longer timeline. In any case Iβm really glad it now sits on my wrist back again! π
Key Points from the Discussion
- Another collector reports a similar issue with their Alpine Eagle, noting a louder winding sound and winding issues from the automatic rotor, alongside significant accuracy problems.
- A contributor suggests that watch brands, despite focusing on certifications like METAS, should prioritize durability and timely servicing to prevent prolonged repair times and the need for full movement replacements.
- One user recounts a similar winding issue on a vintage watch, which ultimately required three service center visits before a worn-out gear was identified as the culprit.
- A collector notes that Chopard previously offered a two-week service guarantee, implying that Chronometer's five-month service was an unusual exception, likely due to the complexity of the issue.
- The decision to replace the entire movement, rather than attempting a repair, is seen by some as a more customer-friendly approach when the root cause is difficult to diagnose or guarantee a fix.
- The aesthetic qualities of the Chopard Alpine Eagle's dial, specifically its color and finishing, are praised as 'stunning' and 'alive,' emphasizing the visual appeal of the watch.
