Ornatus-Mundi showcases the De Bethune DB25 IX Maya, a timepiece created as a tribute to the Mayan calendar's symbolic passage. This post delves into the intricate craftsmanship of the dial, highlighting De Bethune's savoir-faire in creating a watch that is both horologically significant and culturally resonant.

"The solid gold dial of these timepieces has been hand-engraved by Michèle Rothen, and enhanced by 31 flame-blued steel inserts. The hour circle displays the numerals of Mayan numbering system, while the inner ring presents the 20 glyphs of divinities, animals and sacred objects representing the various days of the calendar.
The dial centre features the baktun, a period glyph used in particular for calculating the “Long Count” and comprising 144,000 days.
In order to highlight the subtle visual equilibrium of the dial, the hands are made in sapphire rimmed with blued steel according to an exclusive De Bethune procedure."

De Bethune DB25 Reference DB25
The DB25 represents De Bethune's entry in the 44.5mm manual-wind category, distinguished by its silver dial configuration within the DB25 series. This reference launched in 2006 and continues the brand's approach to contemporary haute horlogerie complications.
The 44.5mm case is crafted from 18k white gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. Water resistance extends to 30 meters. The manual-winding caliber DB2105 movement provides a substantial 120-hour power reserve. The watch features a leather strap attachment.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking De Bethune's technical approach to timekeeping in a precious metal case. The extended power reserve and manual-wind operation position it for enthusiasts who appreciate hands-on interaction with their timepieces. The 44.5mm sizing places it in contemporary proportions within the independent watchmaking segment.
Francois, however this dial is to die for, sublime, majestic, phantasmagoric I love it! This is definitely a " sans fautes". I would love to see it in the flesh. Thank you Magnus and so " a propos" :):) here in Perth the end of days is predicted for 19h11 which in a way is very believable as it will then be evening:) Cheers and Happy New Year. Francois the one from Down Under:)
But alas!by the time I started thinking all 12 were gone!!!!! A fantastic fantastic watch, goes beyond any speculation of tech aspects and/or WIS discussion...its just a little piece of art the best iteration of art /watches if I may, even if not associated to a well known artist or a brand. Still under its charm, its a beauty. Thank you for posting. Mo
I like it, in and out. The work on that dial is amazing, nice hands too, and it looks great on the wrist. The back view looks like a part from a space ship. :) Thanks for the pics. Vte :)
.. With the minute hand nearly at 12 why is the hour hand at 07.30? Aditya
did not deal with those piffling small problems ... ;-) No, more seriously, it must be a fault in the prototype after a week's full of heavy handling during Basel Fair 2012. Merry Christmas, Magnus
