This topic can go either way for me - it's not a topic that I see a major debate about - it's simply a matter of opinion.  BUT, do you consider yourself an obsessive collector?  And how obsessive is obsessive?  See the super-knowledgeable James Dowling and Tim Mosso - both are two of my favorite individuals in the watch world -

And you might want to skip the questions - one fella just goes on with his own comments before getting to his question and his comments don't support his question.

This debate really got some audience members going!  One audience member tracked down the moderator and gave her a mouthful about how he didn't like how some questions were answered.  Another tracked down James Dowling and gave him an earful!  Personally, I didn't see the need for this - as it's just two differing opinions.

But if Tim Mosso says an ideal collection is around 8 pieces - and that you wear all of them at least a few times a year and James Dowling says a collection has to have a central "theme" and can be many many watches...  What are your thoughts?  How do you define a collection?

I think Tim has a very practical perspective. There are some truly spectacular collections on this forum and I understand income disparity and that watches on this level are luxury toys and those who are wealthy are in a unique position to support innovation, up and coming talent and artistry and so these people help the industry we love thrive... At the end of the day though I step back and think of Alexander the Great who died and paraded his body with his hands sticking out of his casket to s

Tim is indeed a very practical man. Well, there are people who simply give away watches to their closest friends and colleagues. And shhhh! Wei Koh, of Revolution Magazine, has been known to give his longest employees a free watch now and then - his rationale - they're better to be put to use than to be sitting in his sock drawer - and he has dozens of watches. I find that to be incredibly generous - especially when some of these watches are worth many tens of thousands of Francs! Bravo Mr. Koh!

A careful group of watches gathered to celebrate success and milestones over a life time well lived is something.. Retail therapy or the purchase of fine trinkets because one is simply interested and has the financial means (many of which are admired for a short period but sit largely unused)... I mean this whole hobby is a little insane but if we're going to try to parse things out..

Would have been more enjoyable if I could play it back at a 1.25 or 1.5x speed. But I went through the full video. I am more pragmatic like Tim

It is a great feeling to own. But i like to put a border when it is enough, to keep me focussed on details. My little Bulova’s tell me that there is no desire for Nautilus. My little Bulova’s humming, you made the right move.

I personally find that I am drawn to watches that I can picture myself wearing and fit both my wrist and my lifestyle. I would never buy something just to keep it in a safe. One more thing is that I never sell watches.
