KMII shares a heartwarming account of introducing his three-year-old daughter to the world of horology, turning a 'Girls Day' event into a watch-shopping adventure. This post beautifully illustrates the joy of passing on a passion for watches to the next generation, focusing on the bonding experience rather than just the timepieces themselves. It resonates with parents looking to share their hobbies with their children.

Some weeks ago has been Girls Day in Austria. It is a series of events organised by companies, trying to get girls / women interested in more technical professions. Mine is three, and fully convinced she will be either a physician or a firefighter, so instead of offering to show her various other occupations, I took the route of consumption and went to look for another watch for her. With her, of course - she has a very definite will and decides on her own. wink

In the end, we returned home with two watches - I guess like father like daughter (or is it the other way around?). smile A FlikFlak for her, and a Swatch Sistem 51 Irony for me. To be quite honest, there is little modern available sized for a three year old one, so it's hardly like there was much choice in terms of manufacturer for my daughter.

As it turns out, this moment of horological bonding between daughter and father also brought out the previous watch of hers into action - she is now much more keen to wear it and 'wind it'. Given that it is quartz, it means setting the time - but then again it is more the fun than accuracy at this point wink

I guess the plexi could do with a bit of polish but then again, there is little point to it wink

At any rate, two happy horologists sharing a fun afternoon! And nice to be able to pass on the hobby to our children - that way, one day they will start 'borrowing' our other watches, too - for the long run wink

I am sure there will be many more. She also has a mechanical watch already - a NOS Fortis Mini Flipper (finding something mechanical today is difficult). So, where have you started with your son on watches, then?

As for the Fortis, they are not that difficult to find and relatively cheap
