tokyo_watch_guy's acquisition of the F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance offers a fascinating glimpse into the spontaneous decisions that often define a collector's journey. His initial pursuit of the Chronomètre Optimum took an unexpected turn when presented with the 2019 Resonance, a model he quickly realized held unique appeal. This post not only showcases a significant timepiece but also highlights the strategic thinking behind prioritizing a rare, discontinued reference over a readily available one.

Hi guys, very new here but I thought ill do my part and post a few photos of my new watch and do a soft intro as well to get in the community smile

So initially I was craving the Chronometre Optimum black label and was sort of set on getting that as I find the mechanism spectacular and above anything very fascinating as a movement geek. However whilst I was at the boutique, the manager said he also had 1 last 2019 Resonance in the safe and asked if I wanted to take a look at it. I said why not? Obviously I knew that the resonance is a very iconic model for Journe and that there was a new 2020 version coming in March/April time (albeit with a corresponding price increase to reflect a "newer" movement).

Unfortunately for me and my wallet today, I fell in love with the watch. You guys are experts in all the various versions and details so I wont go into that but man this 2019 really captured my imagination! I had to have it. So I switched targets as the manager also advised me that if I wanted the optimum in the future, I could still order it but the resonance for 2019 is finished and that pushed me over the edge.

Anyhow! here are some photos:

A variety of straps to choose from, went for the matte grey in the end as I tend to dress alot in grey!

I know, very boring, all grey haha also yes, my wrists are very thin! That is also an FPJ pocket square that I was gifted along with alot of other freebies smile

About the F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance Ref. resonance

The Chronomètre à Résonance represents F.P. Journe's entry in the Souveraine collection, distinguished by its resonance complication. This reference utilizes the principle of resonance between two independent escapements to enhance chronometric precision.

The 40mm case is crafted in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. The silver dial houses the manual-winding caliber 1499 movement, offering a 42-hour power reserve. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters, and the watch is completed with a leather strap.

This reference appeals to collectors focused on haute horlogerie complications and independent watchmaking. The resonance mechanism positions this piece as a technical showcase within F.P. Journe's manual-winding offerings. Production began in 2000, establishing this as part of the brand's contemporary catalog for collectors seeking advanced chronometric functions.

Can I start by saying that the photo of the FPJ on your whist with the grey suit on looks very sharp. Great style. Personally speaking I don’t think that you can go far wrong with and FPJ and if you decide to change it in the future plenty of people will want it. Good luck and best regards. The Captain

I think you made a very smart move. This Resonance is a super nice version with the most legible dial af all the versions. Besides that, it is also quite rare by number since it was only produced I 2019. The Optimum, is as you say, also available at a later point. I think it would compliment the Resonance perfectly. Also a heartfelt welcome to our community. You certainly made a grand entry 😄 We have a really great group from the beginner to the very seasoned collectors, all sharing our common p
