ChristianDK's exploration of the F.P. Journe Répétition Souveraine (RQ) in its 40mm rose gold iteration offers a crucial perspective on a watch often discussed in its larger 42mm form. His personal preference for the 40mm, despite the perceived market trend towards the 42mm, highlights the nuanced considerations collectors face when choosing a significant haute horlogerie piece. This article delves into the community's diverse opinions on case size, wearability, and design integrity, making a 2021 discussion relevant for new collectors considering this iconic reference today.

The Chronomètre à Résonance represents F.P. Journe's entry in the Souveraine collection, distinguished by its resonance complication. This reference utilizes the principle of resonance between two independent escapements to enhance chronometric precision.
The 40mm case is crafted in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. The silver dial houses the manual-winding caliber 1499 movement, offering a 42-hour power reserve. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters, and the watch is completed with a leather strap.
This reference appeals to collectors focused on haute horlogerie complications and independent watchmaking. The resonance mechanism positions this piece as a technical showcase within F.P. Journe's manual-winding offerings. Production began in 2000, establishing this as part of the brand's contemporary catalog for collectors seeking advanced chronometric functions.
Funnily enough you are the second person to show me a 40mm RQ today, a friend just visited a boutique earlier this week. When the world returns to normal there will be a lot of catch up for me in terms of seeing watches for the first time in the metal, the RQ being one. QP being another. Thanks Christian.
I’m waiting on a 40mm RQ.
Not withstanding my smaller wrist, the movement will fill up the case back a lot better.
It doesn’t have the slim elegant profile of the R though. It is packed with a crazy movement and for that I find it very reasonably sized.
Honestly your wrist seems big enough to have the 42mm but it is all personal preference...Jim
You are right, I could easily pull off 42. It’s just more a preference thing for me. My preference is 38-40 mm.
