Jay (Eire) initiates a crucial discussion for F.P. Journe collectors, reflecting on the brand's shift in case sizes. His personal experience with a 38mm Resonance model highlights the challenges faced by enthusiasts with smaller wrists as the current catalog increasingly favors larger dimensions. This thread explores the implications of these changes for both new acquisitions and the enduring appeal of vintage F.P. Journe references.

The Chronomètre à Résonance represents F.P. Journe's entry in the Souveraine collection, distinguished by its resonance complication. This reference utilizes the principle of resonance between two independent escapements to enhance chronometric precision.
The 40mm case is crafted in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. The silver dial houses the manual-winding caliber 1499 movement, offering a 42-hour power reserve. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters, and the watch is completed with a leather strap.
This reference appeals to collectors focused on haute horlogerie complications and independent watchmaking. The resonance mechanism positions this piece as a technical showcase within F.P. Journe's manual-winding offerings. Production began in 2000, establishing this as part of the brand's contemporary catalog for collectors seeking advanced chronometric functions.
But I doubt that you'd be unhappy with a 40 mm. Try one on and see.
Flat sticky leather lining on my wrist doesn't appeal to me, but that texture is great. Is it comfortable? Mike
Each of the OEM FPJ straps I have are the same in terms of the reverse side. His watches are generally thin and so the straps also have no padding really, so pretty thin.
It’s maybe something that’s OK if the metal and dial are specific colours and visually give a smaller feel to the watch. The lugs don’t extend over the edge of my wrist, but they are very close to doing so.
Comment: Amazing watch. Just a stunner. Also, I seriously doubt we ever see 38mm again, which is a shame. 40's fit great on my 7" wrist, but the 38's have some sort of magic in them. Question(s): 1) How big is your wrist? That watch looks great on you with room to spare. Visually I think 40 works, but it's always so hard to tell from pictures at certain angles. 2) I recently received a OEM Journe embossed strap that has no quick release spring bar. It doesn't even have the holes for the tabs in
About the realization that most in the current lineup just won’t fit me as well as a 38mm does. I have a 38mm octa lune and it wears like a dream, even noticeably better than the 39mm CB.
