SALMANPK's annual GPHG nominations post is a highly anticipated event on WatchProSite, offering a curated look at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève contenders. This year, SALMANPK highlights an exceptional array of watches, from independent marvels to established brands, showcasing a diverse range of horological mastery and aesthetic innovation. His selections provide a valuable starting point for collectors to explore the watches that truly push the boundaries of design and engineering in the industry.

The Candidates are in, I can't remember the last time I've seen this many Amazing creations before. Exciting Times 😊👍. Credit to the GPHG, they highlighted pieces I didn't know about, although don't envy the Judges job, this year will be tough.

I went through their categories and loved so many of the watches based on aesthetics, the fun factor or horological mastery.

Going to share with you the ones I liked and a brief comment on each as to why. Would love to hear your thoughts as to if you agree, disagree, and share which pieces spoke to you.

Here goes

Gubelin Ipsomatic: Different yet Classical, Platinum, they had me at Santiago Calatrava as the Designer

Sartory Billard/Studio Underdog Sunflower: Fun, Aesthetically Beautiful Executed with Classic Precision

AMY EUJENY AE TN002: Fun Design, in-house movement where the balance wheel and escapement are laid out in a linear fashion, very cool! all made in South Korea, Double Cool 😊

Carl Suchy & Sohne Vienna Night: I love the dial design, Marc Jenni the watchmaker is very talented, a love letter to Vienna, they mention inspiration by Josef Hoffmann who is a Design Idol of mine and his work at the Stoclet House makes me Dream.

Garrick S3 Dead Seconds: Beautiful watch, has that English watchmaking touch which I love as well as the Large Balance Wheel ♥️, three things I would change, the crown, the case size, at 42mm, sub 40mm would be better, the empty real estate on the left side of the dial, would do an English style frosted gilt finish or something

Holthinrichs Ornament Nouveau: An Amalgam of Art Nouveau and Modernism, looks amazing, using 3D allows this unique case design, the Balance Wheel Bridge is Art ♥️

Masa Sohkoku: Japanese Independents that fuse traditional fine handcrafted Western and Japanese techniques and designs produce beautiful results and this is no Exception

Andersen/Aspreys Burmese Jade Jumping Hour: Just Beautiful 😍

Naoya Hida Perpetual Calendar: Succesful Fusion of Western/Japanese Aesthetics with a movement jointly developed by Dubois-Depraz and Habring, very cool 😊👍

Qian GuoBiao Double Balance Wheel: I love his aesthetics and left of field ideas, I know of two balance wheels in the Dufour Duality, Journe and Armin Strom Resonance but haven't seen one on top of the other, does that produce Resonance?

Andersen WorldTime Communication 45: I always loved his world times and this one is so beautiful, very cool how the crown is flush with the case ❤️

Eberhard Chronographe: The watch Montblanc could have made with a 41.5m case but Eberhard got one in, love the price too

Fam Al Hut Tourbillon: A Wrist Machine ❤️

Greubel Forsey Foudroyante Nano Tourbillon: I need to process this, but WoW, the technology and horology ♥️

Hazemann & Monnin School Watch Jumping Hour Passing Strike: Love the Look of it ♥️

I have 20 more watches I like in my list, yes I know I have a problem 😁👍, will Post a Part 2.

And once we have the six finalists per category, I will organize our own WatchProSite "Fantasy" GPHG winners: where our members will choose their winners among the six semi-finalists in each category. We will do this in October!
