Cazalea introduces a crucial resource for Grand Seiko enthusiasts: a comprehensive model index designed to help collectors and writers accurately identify and categorize watches by their reference numbers. This initiative aims to enhance the discoverability and organization of Grand Seiko content on WatchProSite, making it easier for the community to engage with specific models.

Hi GS Lovers,

Bill and the technical team at WatchProSite have added a model index to the site. That enables us to more easily find articles discussing our favorite models -- IF --  we include the model number in the file.

So if you know the number of your watch, please put it in any article you contribute. You can find it either on the outer box or on the hang tag. It's NOT on the watch or any manual or printed material in the box. :-(

Alternatively, you can use the reference table to locate the watch. I have chosen a sample image off the web of a watch I don't recognize to use as an example.

Using our powers of observation, we see it has a bracelet, white dial, no lume, a date window, and an automatic movement. No GMT, no chrono, no spring drive, no quartz, no diver, no magnetic shield, etc.

GRAND SEIKO MASTER MODEL LIST

Here are instructions for using the spreadsheet:

We can eliminate the rows in the table that deal with GMT, Chrono, Spring Drive, Quartz, Diver, Ladies watches, etc.
With the search narrowed down, we eliminate all the models with a cell that's colored in red, because that shows a quality our watch does not possess - such as a strap or black dial.

By this process of elimination, we learn it is an SBGR055.

About the Horological Meandering Ref. SBGR001

The SBGR001 is a significant early Grand Seiko reference, representing a foundational model in the modern Grand Seiko mechanical lineup. It was among the initial releases that marked Grand Seiko's re-establishment as a distinct luxury watch brand, emphasizing precision and craftsmanship. This reference helped set the standard for the aesthetic and technical principles that would define many subsequent Grand Seiko mechanical watches, particularly those with a classic, dress-oriented design.

This model features a stainless steel case, housing a high-performance automatic movement. The design is characterized by its clean lines and polished surfaces, typical of Grand Seiko's Zaratsu polishing technique, which creates distortion-free reflections. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, providing clarity and scratch resistance, and the movement offers a substantial power reserve, ensuring reliable timekeeping over an extended period.

For collectors, the SBGR001 holds importance as an early example of the contemporary Grand Seiko mechanical watch. It appeals to those who appreciate the brand's commitment to understated quality and meticulous finishing. As one of the first models in its series, it provides insight into the design language and technical aspirations that would evolve into Grand Seiko's broader collection of mechanical timepieces.

I find the idea behind very good and helpful - have some troubles in the application, though. Been consistently using the model designations since but at best it then appears as Grand Seiko in the little box at the end and never the model number. I can see it works with some of the others, so what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I thin it\'s a WatchProSite issue. I need to ask our programming team to enter the entire GS model code list into the site software database. Now that the Master Spreadsheet is fairly stable, I\'ll see if they can do it once the holidays are over. Sorry about that, Mike

As I know how much fun it is to find new surprises on the site, I wanted to make sure I am not doing it wrong

the bezel is not an octagon one but a dodecagon (12 sided). specific correction to SBGR011, it's in titanium and not stainless steel.

The one you are referring to, in the article above, was constructed just to give some guidance on the intentions of / and how to use the Master Chart. You can find it here: GRAND SEIKO MASTER CHART Cazalea

This model is not Stainless Steel, but in fact 18K White Gold, and has the 12 & 6 Arabic markers.
