BMR's post captures the excitement and perseverance involved in acquiring a highly sought-after Grand Seiko, the SBGW253, just before Baselworld 2018. His detailed account of calling 41 authorized dealers underscores the dedication often required by collectors to secure a desired piece. The post beautifully illustrates the immediate appreciation for Grand Seiko's finishing and the emotional connection forged through the hunt for a special watch.

It’s a bit ironic that I got this watch because it was a hit at last year’s Baselworld. In the end, it took me calling 41 ADs around the states to track this beauty down. The hunt was tiresome, frustrating even at times, but it was such an amazing feeling to hear someone say “let me go check the case, I think we may have one...yes, yes we do!”

Without further ado, here it is:

The SBGW253!

I know everyone says this, but it’s true, the finishing is just superb. I’m extremely impressed. The depth of the curved dial and sapphire adds a very cool dimension that you don’t get an appreciation for in pictures. The blue seconds hand on top of the razor sharp dauphine hour and minute hands is perfect for me. The black strap may need a swap, but that may be the only thing I would change here, and that’s easy to do.

I apologize for the iPhone pictures. I didn’t have too much time before we put the kids to bed. I look forward to sharing some wrist shots and impressions in a few days. I can say with confidence now that this will not be my last Grand Seiko! I’m looking forward to what they release this week 😁😉. Thanks for seeing, everyone. I’m very excited about this piece.

I had a funny feeling it would be this one. This is the kind of watch that will be passed on from generation to generation. A true gem and so perfectly executed! A great example of the phrase "less is more". I can understand your exhilaration in finding and receiving this piece, as pictures just doesn't do it any justice. The appreciation only comes with ownership. cheers fernando
