Cazalea presents the 2017 Grand Seiko SBGX Quartz collection, detailing the significant brand change of removing the 'Seiko' name from the dial. This post offers a thorough visual catalog of the new models, many of which are re-released versions of existing references, providing essential information for enthusiasts monitoring Grand Seiko's brand repositioning.

Seiko recently announced that in 2017 they will separate the Grand Seiko line by removing the word "Seiko" on the dial. We now have the ability to show you the new watches for 2017. All the watches in this series of posts are on the GS website and designated as new models. In many (not all) cases these are the same as earlier models but with a different dial. Perhaps if your favorite watch was sold out, or inaccessible, it will reappear now with its new livery. Happy searching!

(This does not mean the older models are gone from the catalog, but I suspect they will disappear as the inventories are sold off.)

I will freeze our Grand Seiko Master Spreadsheet at the last of the 2016 models, and at some point may create a new sheet for 2017- going forward.

About the Seiko Ref. SBGX263

The Grand Seiko SBGX263 is part of the brand's core quartz collection, known for its precision and understated design. This reference embodies Grand Seiko's philosophy of practical luxury, offering a high-accuracy quartz movement within a robust and finely finished case, making it a staple for daily wear.

This model features a stainless steel case and bracelet, housing the 9F62 quartz movement. The movement is designed for accuracy, rated to ±10 seconds per year, and incorporates features such as a twin-pulse motor for driving wider hands and a backlash auto-adjust mechanism for precise second hand alignment. The case is typically finished with Zaratsu polishing, providing distortion-free surfaces.

The SBGX263, like other 9F quartz models, is relevant to collectors who appreciate technical precision and the discreet luxury of Grand Seiko. Its robust construction and high-accuracy quartz movement offer a reliable and low-maintenance option, often considered a foundational piece in a diverse collection.
