Rick.On.Watches shares his enthusiasm for a significant 2020 acquisition, highlighting a timepiece that stands out not only in his personal collection but also within the broader independent watchmaking landscape. His post showcases a Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire featuring a bespoke Kari Voutilainen dial, inviting fellow collectors to appreciate the unique craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal of this exceptional watch. This piece explores why such a watch resonates deeply with enthusiasts and its enduring appeal.

The Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire is a distinguished offering from the independent Dutch watchmakers, Tim and Bart Grönefeld. It represents their commitment to traditional haute horlogerie combined with a distinctive contemporary aesthetic, positioning itself as a significant piece within their limited production portfolio.
The timepiece features a constant force mechanism, or remontoire d'égalité, integrated into its hand-wound movement, ensuring consistent power delivery to the escapement for enhanced accuracy. The movement, visible through a sapphire case back, is meticulously finished with polished bevels, circular graining, and Geneva stripes. The case is typically crafted from precious metals, housing a dial designed for legibility and understated elegance.
For collectors, the 1941 Remontoire is valued for its technical sophistication and the brothers' dedication to artisanal craftsmanship. Its limited production numbers and the inclusion of a complex constant force complication contribute to its desirability and long-term appeal within the independent watchmaking segment.
Glad it brings so much pleasure, that is what the passion is all about!

Seems i missed out on this. Even my dealer advising me not to hunt now as prices inflated. May have to “settle” for a principia.
This is a watch that basically has everything going for it; GPHG recognition, unusual complication, unique finishing style, very limited production, kari dial, etc. Everyone seems to love the brand, and a number of people on WPS have a Gronefeld Remontoire. IMO, I don't think you'd be overpaying at all by getting one now and the chance of losing resale value is low. The Principia is a terrific watch as well and also great value, but I'd be in favor stepping up to the Remontoire if you're giving
I have already come to terms with settling for a principia (since anyway, my zeitwerk has a remontoire). But your post made me go back to why i wanted the remontoire to begin with. It’s beautiful and it’s what the brothers are known for. So my compromise, if i can find one in the dial i want, will go for it. Am on waitlist with the brothers but i have been told no cancellations so far and the principia delivery time is now 18 months.
Same level of finishing, very nice gold rotor, some cool dial+strap choices, comes with a really beautiful winder as well. Can't go wrong with either!
