H. Moser & Cie @ Baselworld 2014 – Part 2 – Perpetual Black Edition

I must admit that I wasn’t very excited when I heard that Moser is going to show a Perpetual 1 in a black version. Would this fit the classic elegance of H. Moser or would it only be a Marketing exercise, a mee-too so to call?

Well, let’s have a look:

The Perpetual Black Edition with a DLC coated Titanium case and gold indices and hands

Movement with blackened bridges. It was always a beautiful movement but this version looks specactular IMO

Close up with the leap year indication clearly visible. The rubies in gold chatons are especially beautiful

Following are few pictures from the press release:

Technical data of the movement

·         Movement: in-house hand-wound calibre HMC 341,

·         34.0 mm diameter, 5.8 mm height

·         Frequency: 18,000 vib/h

·         Perpetual Flash Calendar display

·         Centre hand month indicator

·         Hour and date

·         Off-centre seconds dial

·         Power-reserve indicator

·         Double barrel

·         Moser teeth for all wheels and pinions

·         Interchangeable Moser escapement

·         Original Straumann Hairspring® with stabilised Breguet overcoil

·         Pallet fork and escapement wheel made from gold

·         Leap year cycle indicator visible on movement side

Case

·         40.8 mm diameter, 11.1 mm height

·         See-through sapphire crystal case-back

What is your opinion on Moser’s fresh take on the small seconds?

A good move by Moser or a unnecessary deviation of their classic design?

Best,

Stefan

Wow, these are the first pictures of this piece that I have seen. I'm thinking this is one that will just have to be seen in person. Moser's images, not unlike many other manufacturer's images, simply don't do their pieces justice in depicting their true beauty. Their fume dials, and now this case material, appear to pose too big of a challenge to the artists in their marketing dept. I was originally disenchanted with the matte black look of this piece as it is depicted in their media images, bu

...it was difficult to capture decent shots with my small camera. You clearly have to see the watch in metal to appreciate it. best Stefan
