Andrew Luff (andrewluff) unveils the Hublot Unico Perpetual Calendar Sapphire (Ref: 406.JX.0120.RT), a surprising release that combines a familiar movement and case in a magical new execution. His initial impressions, despite being captured on a cellphone camera, highlight the stunning visual impact of the sapphire case paired with the perpetual calendar complication.

OK, so its not a new case and its not a new movement... but putting them together produces something magical!

This watch did not appear in any of the official novelty releases for Geneva Watch Week, so when it was handed over to me it was a total surprise, but what an amazing one.   I am a big fan of the Unico and especially the Unico QP released last year (this was the first perpetual calendar produced by Hublot) and to me, the Magic Gold was the perfect version... until now!

I will let the pictures do the talking (my apologies for the quality as due lost luggage my camera failed to arrive, so they are from my cellphone)

And on the wrist...

As a complete package it just works so well, the lightening of the subdials from the original version to light grey and using clear sapphire dial (this one seems clearer than the previous but maybe due to light being able to penetrate further now) just makes a perfect combination with the clear sapphire case.  It also draws now your eye to the beautiful blue sky and silver moon which can be a little lost in the previous version.

Time to start saving... imagine  how perfect it would be with an orange hand wink

Cheers
Andrew

I'm not a big fan of Hublot in general and sapphire case watches more specifically. Nevertheless, I would be happy to see this one in the flesh. Who knows, I could totally change of mind ;-)

Best wishes Alkiro

Any reason why it's not in the official release?

As a Hublot fan, I love what I see here. Thank you for sharing.

I have no idea Luis...

it was just not on their press kit release at the time. But it is on their website so maybe they thought the other new novelties were in need of a bigger announcement. But it is truly stunning! Cheers Andrew

I was pretty amazed to see the sapphire Unico last year.

Truly impressive and must be seen "in the sapphire" to get the full impact.
