Emmanuel, known as quattro, invites WatchProSite readers to explore the Kari Voutilainen KV21 Tonneau, presenting new live photos of a stunning grey dial and platinum case example. His initial post, building on previous coverage, highlights the intricate guillochage, unique case shape, and fantastic hand-wound movement. This article synthesizes community reactions and expert opinions, offering a comprehensive look at what makes this independent watchmaker's creation so compelling.

Krayon represents a contemporary entry in the independent watchmaking landscape, founded by Rémi Maillat with a focus on astronomical complications and unique case architectures. The KV21 Tonneau demonstrates the brand's departure from traditional round cases, embracing a tonneau form that challenges conventional horological aesthetics while maintaining mechanical sophistication.
The KV21 showcases Krayon's technical approach through its distinctive dial architecture, featuring multiple subdials with intricate guilloche work and a layered construction that creates visual depth. The tonneau case profile represents a bold design choice in an era where independent makers often gravitate toward classical proportions, with the angular geometry providing a modern counterpoint to the traditional craft of the dial execution.
As an independent manufacture, Krayon occupies a niche position within the contemporary collector market, appealing to enthusiasts seeking alternatives to established independent houses. The KV21 Tonneau's limited production nature and distinctive aesthetic language position it as a study piece for collectors interested in emerging independent brands, though its market presence remains relatively modest compared to more established contemporary independents.
This is the frustration with any piece 😔
but since I'm not in the race, it doesn't bother me... ;-) And I love the watchmaking! Best, Emmanuel

Front and back. I am more of a white metal person as I don't like to attract attention but over the years I have tried many Pt models and came to the realization that they often look too cold for my liking. WG is better but often tarnishes so it leaves me with Ti or SS.
customizable, so you could choose your white metal! Best, Emmanuel
