Nicolas's post revisits the IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph and Rattrapante, specifically focusing on the evolution from reference 3751 to 3754. His personal experience with the platinum version and detailed comparison of the models offer valuable insights into these complex and historically significant IWC timepieces. This exploration highlights how design changes and complications influenced collector perception in the early 2000s.

In the early 2000's, IWC revisited the Da Vinci Perpetual calendar Chronograph, with a freshly designed Rattrapante: A bigger case ( 41 mm instead of 38, 5 mm ), a dial with arabic numbers as hours markers, and leaf hands, now. The former reference was 3751, the version from the early 2000's is the 3754

It was unlimited in rose gold, limited in platinum ( 500 pieces )  with a silver or blue dial.

I used to own the platinum silver dial, and liked it, even if it was quite heavy in platinum.

And the version I had.

There was also a reference without rattrapante, the 3750, here in steel:

Do you remember the Da Vinci?

Best,

Nicolas

Despite my younger years at the time, I remember this model IWC being big news. I particularly liked the platinum, silver dial version.

3750 in WG with white dial ... and sold it to fund a PP. One of the reasons was the - IMO - poor legibility of the sundials. Sometimes I miss the Da Vinci. Was yours one of the watches that were stolen? Or did you sell it? Best Thomas
