Inspired by posts about the new Inge, I had to fetch it from the safe.
That edgy styling and integrated bracelet has a nice understated look. Nothing that is noticed by non-WIS people. It might be mistaken for another Tissot-PRX-like 80s watch.
But if you handle it, it has a bulletproof feeling to it. It wears a little larger than its size suggest, but is still pretty svelte. And if you look closer, its the small details that come to life, eg the faceted and gilt indices and hands, the asymmetrical holes for the screwed in (not glued) lunette, the protruding centerlinks that prevent the rest of the bracelet from scratching, the fish-crown.
I must confess, it does not get too much wrist time, but everytime I put it on, I‘m fascinated.
And btw, just like the new one, its price was, when new, about double the price of a Rolex Datejust. Justified? Thats another story.
But the 3508 has that extra trick with its super-antimagnetic movement, which was at its time, record-setting. According to rumors, it was too expensive to manufacture and subsequently abandoned for the chronometer version with the loupe (ref 3521).

About the IWC Ref. 3508

The IWC Ingenieur Reference 3508, often referred to as the "Jumbo" Ingenieur, represents a significant evolution in the Ingenieur line, moving towards a more refined and integrated design language. It retains the robust character of its predecessors while introducing a sleeker profile and an integrated bracelet, distinguishing it from earlier, more overtly tool-watch iterations. This reference is notable for its understated aesthetic, which, while sharing visual cues with other integrated bracelet designs of its era, maintains a distinct IWC identity through subtle detailing.

This particular Ingenieur features a case crafted from stainless steel, designed to offer a substantial yet wearable presence on the wrist. It houses an automatic movement, known for its reliability and precision. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, providing clarity and scratch resistance. The construction emphasizes durability and a high level of finish, evident in the tactile quality of the case and bracelet.

For collectors, the Reference 3508 appeals to those who appreciate the less common and more nuanced designs within IWC's historical catalog. Its integrated bracelet and distinctive case shape offer a different collecting proposition compared to the more widely recognized Ingenieur models. The attention to detail, such as the faceted indices and hands, contributes to its appeal as a well-engineered and thoughtfully designed timepiece from its period.

Simple yet beautiful and elegant make for a lovely IWC.

I have always liked these earlier versions of the IWC Ingenieur as all of the design elements just come together to make a great simple and clean and great looking watch IMHO. This one deserves to be freed from the confines of your safe much more often as it's clear from your post you really love it and it brings you pleasure wearing it. Wear and enjoy yours in good health Marc

You’re absolutely right. Especially as i bought it because I work with MRI-Equipment.

So I am frequently exposed to magnetic fields of up to 3 Tesla. Thank goodness I have never forgotten taking off my watches before entering the MRI-room. Otherwise I woud have killed them. And up to now, i didn’t dare to wear the IWC.

Beautiful design and size

Looks relatively thin. Definitely a winner here.

With my smaller wrist, I am happy that the trend is towards smaller watches.

As much as I liked the 3227 on paper, it looked ridiculous on my wrist when I tried it on several years ago.
