Dr No's report from the IWC SIHH 2013 novelties display in Beverly Hills offers a firsthand look at the new Ingenieur collection. His detailed photos and initial impressions provide valuable context for understanding IWC's direction for the year, particularly the range of chronographs and the new Ingenieur Automatic. This article captures the excitement of a collector event and highlights key models for enthusiasts.

. . . in Beverly Hills last week at the boutique.  The plan was to stop by and sample the wares, then continue southward for a session of 8-ball with my pals.  As it turned out, the traffic was so thick Friday afternoon that I ended up back at home in the afternoon.  I should've stayed for the collectors event later that afternoon, not only because they had the latest from IWC on exhibit . . .

. . . but also three exceptional libations . . .

. . . for their attendees.

First up, the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. . .

. . . with digital date and month displays.  This combination of complications will appeal to a particular audience.

Ingenieur AMG Black Series Ceramic . . .

. . . with brown dial treatment, and the same model . . .

. . . in black.

Ingenieur Chronograph Racer . . .

. . . with slate dial on bracelet.  This full-size 45 mm model was engaging enough that I asked to try it on so that you would have a reference as to how it fits on a ~ 17 cm wrist.

Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil . . .

. . . with perlage dial treatment, otherwise similar to the Chronograph Racer.  The very same model . . .

. . . in brown.

Ingenieur Dual Time Titanium . . .

. . . with matching titanium dial.

Ingenieur Double Chronograph Titanium with black . . .

. . . and silver . . .

. . . dials.

Finally, my favorite of the lot, the Ingenieur Automatic, with silver dials featuring either matching . . .

. . . or contrasting hands and markers . . .

. . . or basic black.

You guessed it - I tried 'em both on.

I have to admit the black dial is pretty sharp.  Case size is 40 mm, which I believe is new for this year.

Thanks to Kyung and Hoa at the boutique for their hospitality!

How does it feel on the wrist? 40mm seems pretty refreshing after all of these jumbo sizes IWC has been putting out.

. . . it came across more sensibly than the 46 mm chronograph that was on my wrist only a few minutes before. I rather liked the appearance of the black dial version on my wrist . . .

Always have loved the Ingenieur, specially the model from the 80's and 90's, my fav one is the meca-quartz alarm chronograph from the 90's, despite of being 34mm, it looks great on my wrist and to my eyes. I could not afford it back in the 90's, so if I find one in good shape and at a fair price, I'll buy it. I tried to wear the 42mm from 2007, but it was very uncomfortable on the wrist, way too thick, so I let it pass. I really liked that dial, nicely texturized with the Ingenieur logo. With th

Thanks, Art for presenting the latest collection. I agree with you that the Ingenieur Automatics you post at the end of your article are the real winners out of this group. The rest can go back to the drawing board IMO. The worst piece to me is the one with the perlaged dial. Why? It's too big; the techy font coupled with an old-world decorative technique dial-side is bizarre. Is it supposed to bring to mind high-end, handcrafted car engines? Thanks, Daos

And cutting back to three, I can\'t see any from this lot joining my collection. The only one that called to me in 5 years was the Climate Action, but I so wanted it to have a transparent case back. The ceramic bezel is great, complementing the black and creamy white dial. The rest of the Ingenieurs seem to be scratch- and ding-magnets. And clunky.

No, I think not. Aren\'t these beautiful though? Photos from Wikipedia
