Shing offers a concise historical overview of IWC's ceramic pilot watches, tracing the lineage from the pioneering Ref. 3705 to later limited editions. This post provides valuable context for understanding the evolution of ceramic in IWC's iconic pilot's collection, highlighting key references and their distinguishing features.
The IWC Portuguese Chronograph reference 3705 represents the brand's approach to classical chronograph complications within the Portuguese collection. This reference features a black dial configuration, distinguishing it from other colorway options within the Portuguese Chronograph range.
The 40.9mm stainless steel case houses an automatic movement and incorporates sapphire crystal protection. Water resistance extends to 30 meters with a fixed bezel construction. The black dial provides the primary visual character for this particular reference within the series.
Reference 3705 appeals to collectors seeking a Portuguese Chronograph in stainless steel with the contrast offered by the black dial. This reference serves collectors who prefer darker dial configurations within IWC's Portuguese chronograph offerings, providing an alternative to lighter dial variants in the same case size and material combination.
You will find some pics here of the latest Boutique edition of the Pilot watches: Not sure about the use of these colors... Thanks a lot for your great post. Fx
Great report from a brand that does not seem to get much airtime here. I love your Yacht Club which made an appearance. As for Ceramic Pilots, not really my thing. I like the feeling of substance in a watch, the feeling you get from precious metals and even SS, so I think I have had my quota of Titanium and Ceramics. But for me, from IWC, nothing beats the rose gold Big Pilot Perpetuals. I'd love to see the limited red perpetual. And thanks for giving me an idea.... An IWC pilot for the lady....
Much appreciated! I'm a fan of ceramic pilot watches from IWC. And I found this post incredibly helpful and educational.
