India Whiskey Charlie initiates a compelling discussion around the IWC Portugieser Chronograph, specifically inviting owners of the 3714 and 3716 references to share their pieces. This thread highlights the enduring appeal of the Portugieser design and offers a glimpse into how collectors integrate these iconic chronographs into their rotations. It underscores the model's significance within the IWC catalog and among enthusiasts.

The IW371415 represents IWC's reference 3714 executed in rose gold with a blue dial configuration. This particular variant distinguishes itself within the model range through its precious metal case construction paired with the contrasting blue dial color.
The 41mm case is crafted from rose gold and houses an automatic movement. The blue dial is protected by sapphire crystal, while the fixed bezel maintains clean lines around the case perimeter. Water resistance extends to 30 meters, positioning this as a dress-oriented timepiece rather than a tool watch.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a rose gold IWC with distinctive dial color contrast. The combination of precious metal case construction with the blue dial creates visual interest while maintaining the brand's technical approach to watchmaking. The 41mm sizing places it within contemporary sizing preferences for luxury timepieces.
Of all the IWC Chronographs.... Maybe blue.
One of my favorite chronograph designs. I have the 3716 from the 150 years editions. Best regards, Gerard
I don't have this particular model, but I do have it's cousin the 5001. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone with the 3714 instead, as the 5001 is quite thick, but I couldn't resist the symmetric dial and in-house movement at the time. The Portuguese/Portugieser style is a classic. I feel pictures don't truly capture the silvered dial, and make it appear "flatter" than it really is. I love the combination of gold numerals and hands with highlights of blue hands on your watch; absolutely stun
I had two early edition 5001's which had problems. I hope yours is running well.
It doesn't get a lot of wrist time these days, and I'm honestly not sure if I ever checked it's daily accuracy (though it is my understanding that the 51011 calibers are not really known for particularly good accuracy), but overall I have thankfully not noticed any major issues with it over the years.
