Blomman Mr Blue shares his initial impressions and photographs of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date Black, a notable novelty from SIHH. His observations delve into the watch's striking black dial, the thoughtful integration of the date window, and the evolution of the Master Control case design. This article provides valuable insights for collectors considering this contemporary take on a classic JLC line.
Friends,
I had the chance to see one of the novelties from this year: The Jeager-LeCoultre Mater Control Date with black dial.
Nicolas already presented this watch but I just wanted to share a couple of shots and some thoughts.
Is black the new black? We don't see plain back dress watches here.
This dial is really BLACK! Often when you see a black dial it shifts in different tones.
This dial is black-black...
With a mix between matt and glossy surface, the dial remains black in most angles...
Good or bad, I could not decide....
One detail I do know I like is that the date windiw have a black background!
I wish more brands would follow and match the date window color with the dial.
This version of the case I like much more then the previous one...
But I still prefer the original Master Control case.
Here is a movement shot for good measure.

It is a bit outdated, now. And in the MUT cases, there are some ( from the biggest ) which could be easily used for a new Master Line... As for the dial, very nice. The matching date window is an interesting detail, too. Thanks for the post, Blomman. Nicolas
Very different from many other JLC black dials.... Compared with the Master Memovox International which is the latest balck Master in my collection, it is like night and day! The MMI have a very glossy dial, hard to captur good in photos. Best Blomman
... possibly the most impressive JLC debut at this year's SIHH. While I've declared my love for the MGTTCQP, I'll gladly admit that this black dialed Master Control accomplishes the greatest visual impact with the greatest economy of details. It's imposing, classical, and salient without trying too hard. There's real value in every sense. I was fortunate enough to see this watch again on Sunday, and it stands out even within a boutique display rife with high complications. Each detail pops with
+1 on re-discovering the history & DNA of the Master series. On a humble personal note I still honor my Master Moon Calendar & Master Geographique from years 1982 -84. It\'s these fine watches, when for me there is a lot of LGM\'s treasureful past present to its Best .. Fine watches .. Not more, no less ! Thx for your great read, I appreciated a lot ! Best, hs
and / or a bit later? Something new, really new is missing, right now, till now. Let's see at the end of this year... Best, Tim. Nicolas
Many of us feel! I "grow up" during the Lambert era, got my first JLC in 1999 and was totally hooked until 2010 as my main brand. After that I started to stray into other brand more and more..... The knowlage and the inovative skills are there, but is their focus....? Best Blomman
