The Jaeger LeCoultre Master Eight Day Perpetual Calendar
Watch collectors are a funny bunch. There are those who think we are crazy for spending hard earned cash just to scratch an itch that will simply not go away. Thereâs no reason to try and explain our addiction (affliction?) to the person who is more than satisfied with a fifty-dollar Michael Kors âwatchâ, or to someone whose mobile phone means more to them than life itself.

Case in point: The Jaeger LeCoultre Master Eight Day Perpetual Calendar.
I first saw this beauty as part of a friendâs amazing collection of watches. Despite some truly outstanding and incredibly rare pieces, the one that started the itch (like a crappy wool sweater) was this particular JLC. At the time, I was wearing a Panerai and asked my friend if heâd be interested in making a trade. His reply was simple and straightforward: âWhat part of âeff offâ donât you understand!?!â
About three months ago my friend made a decision to do something he has never done as a collector: Sell some watches from the collection. It was time to (as he put it) 'thin the herd'. Lucky for me, one of the pieces being sold was the JLC Master Eight Day Perpetual Calendar. And yes, I knew it had to be mine - I knew I had to scratch that itch.

The sub-dial at 3:00 indicates the date and the sub-dial at 6:00 indicates the month.

The sub-dial at 9:00 indicates both the day of the week and phase of the moon. The window at 7:00 indicates the year.

The dial is sunray-brushed silver with rhodium-plated hour markers, and fitted with dauphine hands.
The strap is black alligator with a platinum deployant buckle.

I love the 8-day, manual-wind perpetual calendars. And platinum makes it even more special. I feel JLC should have issued more pieces with the 8-day movement as it's such a practical complication for watch collectors who rotate pieces throughout the week/month. Cheers, John
... That's what I love most about it. And I'm glad they only made a couple hundred of this one. I'm very lucky. Best, - Scott
Great watch! I still think JLC should make key chains looking like the back of this one! :) Best Blomman
... Taken it off since I got it! - Scott
I've been liking the skeleton version for a really long time. This is a trully great JLC imho, congratualtions Scott! Cheers, Mark
... Pull the trigger? All the best, - Scott
