Born in 2000, the Gran Sport family saw the arrival of the Gran Sport Chronograph and the Gran Sport ( for men ).

There was also a Gran Sport Duo ( picture found on the net, I don't know who to credit for, sadly ) :

Our better half had to wait till 2002 to see a sporty Reverso made for them: The Gran Sport Lady, which had a pretty short life, as it was in production till 2005, only.

The whole Gran Sport line was really something:

Aesthetically, first, with its more squared case, powerful yet elegant, sport chic, and these delicously decorated dials.

Mechanically, and, mainly here, the Gran Sport Chrono which had a very interesting and nice movement, not visible, though.

As for the Gran Sport lady, I would say that it is one of the very few watches for ladies I love a lot, along with the Breguet Reine De Naples.

It is a delicous blend of sportiness, chic, elegance, and feminity through its 2 raws of diamonds ( a total of 32, horizontally located above and below the verso dial).

Magali, the designer of this watch, said it better than me:

The case is less thin than a Reverso GT, for example, but is still smaller and less thick than an XGT, obviously playing the card of sportiness.

The exact dimensions are 38, 7 mm x 24, 85 mm x 10, 8 mm;

The lugs are less slim than on a " Classic " Reverso, but still very well proportionned, compared to the case:

It was made in stainless steel, white gold ( limited edition called Kingyo, which had 144 diamonds ) and yellow gold, and it came with a rubber strap, a stainless steel or yellow gold bracelet, my favourite being the combinatiion stainless steel / rubber strap, which adds a lot of polyvalence to the watch.

There is a system, on the strap, which allows you to set the correct lenght: At each side of the folding buckle, you have a pusher which gives you a slightly longer or shorter lenght ( + / - 3, 9 mm for the bracelet, and + / - 2,5 mm for the rubber strap

, depending on the season, warm or cold, as the size of our wrist depends on this, too. Clever.

The Cal 864 is a 19 jewels manual winding movemet, beating at 21 600 vibrations per hour, made of 164 parts, and offering a power reserve of 50 hours.

It is quite thin, with a 3, 45 mm height.

Let's add some pictures and a few personal thoughts on this lovely Gran Sport Lady, to give an end to this quick write up.

I don't have an owner point of view, since this watch belongs to my wife, but I have the pleasure to see it regularly on her wrist for almost 8 years, now.

There are two watches she loves a lot: Her Rolex 1016 and this Gran Sport Lady.

And she hesitated a lot between this one and the Breguet Reine De Naples, but she finally had a preference for the Jaeger-Lecoultre, because of its duality.

You want to play it discrete, go for the recto side. You want to show off, but with good taste, then you will go for the verso side.

2 sides, two different worlds, that is the magic of the Reverso.

This watch had and still has a beautiful life, if you pay attention to the condition of the case.

The mandatory wirst shots, featuring, FINALLY, a much nicer wrist than all these hairy creatures we are used to see, or to show.

Now, I start to wonder if I would not go for a men's version, the Chronographe, which always attracted me...

I've never seen the brick motif before. I do have a question: does JLC currently produce any women's reversos that are mechanical? I've seen some beautiful lady reversos, but they've all been quartz.

An old friend of mine has the chronograph version. I think he still has it. Maybe the Squadra is, in some ways, the replacement of the Gran Sport models? Ruckdee

to what you said about the Gran'Sport lady which is my wife's favourite watch. The duo if used as a second time zone is also great for busy female executives who need to do business travelling.

Hi Really nice watch, with an interesting complication. There's also the fact that it's in steel which I also see as a positive. It's good to have a reminder of not only the Reverso Gran Sport Lady, but the whole Gran Sport range. They were around for too short a period & it's only now that've started to appreciate them. I know it wasn't the most interesting one, but for me the auto has a lot of appeal. An auto Reverso in a size that I can get on with and despite it's added bulk - it's still
