I have a feeling that this clasp wasn't easy to make. It probably cost 6-8x more than the normal clasp and most customers probably didn't appreciate it enough for it to make a difference. So they probably didn't make many of them. The normal basic pin buckle clasp in a thin partially hollow 18K gold material probably costs around 100 Swiss francs to manufacture.
