Blomman Mr Blue shares his vintage JeanRichard Aquastar reference 1581, inspired by recent JeanRichard novelties. His post offers a look at this 37mm automatic dive watch, highlighting its tool-watch appeal and elegant size, while also noting the brand's efforts to rebuild its presence.
While going through JeanRichard novelties information, I got inspired to wear my Aquastar.
JeanRichard has been working hard to rebuild the brand the past few years and this year their offerings are really nice!
I had the chance to meet them and see their collection at BaselWorld. I will post dedicated posts about the novelties in a separate post.
Back to the Aquastar reference 1581: 37 mm in diameter, screw down case back. External rotating bezel, automatic movement with date.
Very little is to be found about the Aquastar, but if I understand correctly, inside is an automatic AS based movement.
This is a tool watch with a more elegant size, I would say. The steel bezel is less pronounced and blends with the case at first glance.
Mine is the 10 ATM, I have seen other version with 20 ATM.
In fact, the Aquastar was a whole line of divers between the end of 50’s/beginning of the 60’s all the way into the 70’s.
Here are two ads from my collection:
Recognize the depth gauge? In a previous post about JeanRichard I showed you this one.
A perfect companion for the weekend!
Sober but strong.
The thick doomed plexi with the cyclops gives nice reflexes in the sun!
And with the right goodies it wears even better!
Best

You always have the coolest ads for all your watches. Bill
Pretty cool as well .. Has got a tool watch appeal, but with a sort of smart twist ! Thx for the stimulating share + nice pics ! Best, hs PS: Pls bring it with you, if possible, next time we meet ! PPS: Is the bezel turntable ?
I have an OCD to always gather as much information and documents about the watches I am interested in....! ;) Best, my friend Blomman
Is running slow compared with the Austrian one! ;) Thank you, my friend - I see what I can do... Best Blomman
... sweet memories of far times around mid 1960´s when I begun to learn to scuba dive when I was a teenager. These watches were imported here by the only dive shop in all Buenos Aires, which imported Cressi Sub diving equipment from Italy and a few models of Aquastar dive watches. I´ve seen the Aquastar being used by some military Navy divers here (bought with their own funds) as well as professional divers in those days. We had no many other serious options in those far years, except for the Ro
Interesting to know that these were used by Navy Divers, even if not issued, and professional divers! It gives a good sense of the quality! :) Best, my friend Blomman
