KMII shares his "January harvest" of new watch acquisitions, reflecting on a challenging month of relocation and family health issues. Despite the difficulties, his new additions—a JLC Master Compressor Memovox, a Doxa Searambler, and an Amida Digitrend—bring a sense of horological satisfaction. This post offers a personal glimpse into a collector's journey and the joy of acquiring diverse timepieces.

As some of you probably know, we moved to another country in January (here:  www.watchprosite.com  for that story). And as these things go it’s rarely smooth sailing, although it had primarily to do with the relocation company and not with the country.

Then came an unfortunate week, where the whole family ended up in hospital, with different ailments. At least I can attest that excellent medical care is available in Moscow 😉

Some Purists have mentioned that Moscow is a spectacular place for watches and this may well be - unfortunately I have not yet had the time to sample this.

Fortunately, watches kept appearing in the ‘old country’, to compensate 😉

So January was definitely interesting, if quite eclectic. First there was the JLC Master Compressor Memovox - a watch I wanted since 2015 or so and which I have shown already.

I have never had a need for a dive watch and this has most certainly not changed. I guess I would not be the only one, whose dive watches never get used in anger (well beyond a dip in a swimming pool or the sea). And there’s this brand, which may well have been the first or second watch brand I knew off (the other being Swatch, which was my first watch). Not Omega, not Rolex or any of the other usual suspects.

The brand is Doxa and I finally got my act together to get one of the Anniversary pieces that I have been drooling over since they came out. It turned out to be the Searambler - which I supposed from the very start would end up being the one. All it needs is an adjustment of the Beads of Rice bracelet to my size and it goes into action (or rather inaction, actually) straight away 😊

The final piece has not been planned - rather it happened completely by accident. I guess Watchonthewrist was the one who made me aware of the brand and model at some point and when I was offered one I figured why not 😉

Talking about the Amida Digitrend. Born in a time when many Swiss manufactures tried to fight the quartz crisis but few had the resources for a quartz movement. So the next best thing was making a mechanical piece look like quartz - like with the Digitrend. Seems to have worked well enough to subsequently inspire MB&F for its HM5 😊

So that’s the January harvest. As Abel taught us this week one should never say never, so I will make no predictions on February 😂

Have a great Sunday!

Watch-wise there’s certainly nothing to complain about 😊

I prefer Doxa and HM5 grandfather . Three watches with three different characters. Well played. Cheers D

They’re certainly all different and yet I find them all fun in their own ways...

And if I put it back on the rubber strap there’s nothing to prevent some water sports - came freshly tested for WR 😊
