GWIS takes us on a breathtaking journey to the Jungfraujoch, home to Kirchhofer, the world's highest watch shop. His detailed account, complete with stunning photography, offers a unique perspective on luxury watch retail in an extraordinary alpine setting. This post is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of horology, travel, and unparalleled natural beauty.

I’ve been spending Christmas in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland and today my sister and I took the alpine trains up to the Jungfraujoch, which is the highest railway station in Europe at 3454 metres above sea level. It’s a bit of a tourist trap, particularly in the summer, but notable from a WPS perspective is that it has a branch of Kirchhofer at 3571m above sea level. The watch shop is located within the Sphinx Observatory building, which has a strong vibe of a lair for a James Bond adversary. Apparently this watch shop is the highest in the World - although I don’t suppose that the other watch retail groups feel a strong urge to compete!

The shop has a mix of brands like Omega, Tudor and Blancpain.

The watches on display were nice (e.g. assorted Speedmasters (although not the new Flight Qualified)), but nothing spectacular. However, the views from around the Sphinx Observatory were absolutely spectacular (certainly the best views I’ve seen from a watch shop window!):

On the southern side, the Aletsch Glacier - the largest glacier in Europe, at about 22km long:

Facing north towards Interlaken:

The ski resort of Wengen, where we’re staying:

It’s a stunningly beautiful area and I highly recommend it to visitors to Switzerland.

All the best,

Jon

About the Omega Seamaster Ref. 007Edition

The Omega Seamaster 007 Edition, reference 210.92.42.20.01.001, distinguishes itself within the Seamaster Diver 300M collection through its specific aesthetic and material choices. This particular reference offers a distinct interpretation of the Seamaster Diver 300M, setting it apart from standard production models with its unique dial and bezel execution, and the use of lightweight titanium for both the case and bracelet. It represents a focused design within the broader Seamaster lineage.

This edition features a 42mm case crafted from grade 2 titanium, paired with a domed sapphire crystal that enhances its vintage-inspired appearance.
