In this insightful post, aviya shares his enduring appreciation for the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Ref. 235.032, a piece he has returned to despite owning more complicated timepieces from the esteemed German manufacture. His journey with this particular reference highlights a common sentiment among collectors: the profound and lasting appeal of horological simplicity and clarity. aviya's reflections offer a valuable perspective on why certain watches, even those without grand complications, hold a special place in a collector's heart.

I fell in love with the original 1815 upon its release. I bought it, sold it, and now returned to its current edition in 38.5mm.

I have more complicated Langes. But I just keep coming back to the simplicity, clarity and charm of this one in pink gold.

Enjoy,  aviya.

About the A. Lange & Söhne Ref. 235.032

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 235.032 is a notable variant within the 1815 collection, distinguished by its larger case size compared to some other models in the series. This reference maintains the classic aesthetic principles of the 1815 line, drawing inspiration from the pocket watches of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, emphasizing legibility and traditional watchmaking values. Here's my simple time only Saxonia. This was my first and is currently my only Lange (my records tell me that five others have come and gone in the collection). This one is not going anywhere, but I do think there's a sense in which your 1815 is better: an Only Lange that's a big more representative of Lange.

The 1815 Up/Down was the first Lange I really desired. I have never owned it, and not sure I will. I own and have owned others Lange, and more complicated Lange, but like you my 1815 is the one I wear more.

I recall how strange it was when Lange discontinued the 1815 line around 2007 and didn't say whether it'd ever return (which of course it did, revamped, 2 years later). Definitely a keeper that you have!
