In this insightful post, aviya shares his long-anticipated acquisition of the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Annual Calendar in pink gold, reference 238.032. He delves into the nuances that make this timepiece particularly compelling in person, highlighting its unique appeal within the esteemed 1815 collection. His reflections offer a valuable perspective on a watch that often defies photographic representation.
With a nod to TeutonicCarFan for the tipping-point inspiration, I am thrilled to introduce my latest addition: the Lange 1815 Annual Calendar in pink gold.
To me, this is one of those Langes that always looks better in real life - for some reason, photos of it generally don't do it justice.
I've been on the edge for years about this piece but - now that I have it on my wrist - it's just superb. I'm real good with the 40mm size because of the included complications on the dial, whereas the 2nd gen. three-hand 1815 always felt too big to me at that same case size.
I've been an 1815 guy since the beginning - my first Lange love and purchase was the original 36mm 1815 - and the 1815 collection still makes me smile and moves me uniquely among them all, and likely always will.
Enjoy, aviya.

About the A. Lange and Söhne Annual Calendar Ref. 238.032
The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Annual Calendar reference 238.032, introduced in 2017, integrates an annual calendar complication into the classic 1815 design language. This model stands out within the 1815 collection by offering a more complex horological function while maintaining the collection's characteristic aesthetic of traditional Saxon watchmaking, inspired by Ferdinand Adolph Lange's birth year. It presents a balanced dial layout that clearly displays the date, day of the week, month, and moon phase, requiring only one manual correction per year at the end of February.
The watch features a 39.5mm rose gold case, housing the automatic manufacture caliber L922.1. This movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The dial is silver, complemented by blued steel hands and Arabic numerals. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The transparent case back, also made of sapphire crystal, allows for observation of the meticulously finished movement.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated calendar complication within a traditionally styled timepiece. It represents a more accessible entry into Lange's complicated watches compared to perpetual calendars, offering significant horological interest. The 1815 Annual Calendar is presented on a hand-stitched leather strap, aligning with the brand's commitment to classic watchmaking traditions and material quality.

About the A. Lange and Söhne Ref. 1815AnnualCalendar
The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Annual Calendar, reference 238.026 (white gold) and 238.032 (pink gold), was introduced in 2017 as the first annual calendar in the 1815 collection. It offers a more traditional aesthetic compared to the Lange 1 or Saxonia lines, aligning with the classic design principles of Ferdinand Adolph Lange's original pocket watches. This model provides a practical calendar complication that requires adjustment only once a year, at the end of February, making it a functional yet understated daily wear option for collectors who appreciate classical watchmaking. It bridges the gap between simpler time-only models and more complex perpetual calendars within the brand's offerings.
The watch features a 40mm case, available in either 18k white gold or 18k pink gold, with a thickness of 10.1mm. The manual-wind caliber L051.3 powers the timepiece, offering a substantial power reserve of 72 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the silver dial, and a sapphire case back allows for observation of the meticulously finished movement. The water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for water sports.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a technically sophisticated yet visually balanced timepiece from A. Lange & Söhne. Its annual calendar and moon phase complications are thoughtfully arranged on the dial, maintaining legibility without appearing cluttered. The 1815 Annual Calendar represents a significant addition to the 1815 family, offering a compelling option for those who value traditional design, mechanical integrity, and a useful calendar function without the added complexity and cost of a perpetual calendar. It is presented on a hand-stitched leather strap.
