foversta delivers a comprehensive report on the A. Lange & Söhne pre-SIHH event in Dresden and Glashütte, unveiling the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase. It is now a tradition: in December Lange & Söhne organizes a pre-SIHH event in Dresden and Glashütte to unveil the first watch of the next collection which will be fully presented at the upcoming SIHH. I love this event because it gives the opportunity to travel in Saxony during the Xmas period and there is a special atmosphere I enjoy: the Xmas markets, the christstollen, the hot wine... without forgetting the pleasure to meet friends of the brands (like Ken who was also present) in its craddle!

The Datograph Up&Down, the Grand Lange 1 Lumen did their first appearances in this context. But this year, it had an unusual feeling because the Lange team decided to use the future building of the Manufacture as a venue for the event. So all the guests had the privilege to attend the very first party inside this building. It is still under construction as you know and it is expected to be ready to house the Lange employees in Spring 2015. It was for us the ability to touch the future of the brand.

I propose you a report in several parts since I took a lot of pictures. Obviously, the most important one is dedicated to the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase, a watch I would call an "unexpected expected timepiece". We will see later why.

In the meantime time, let's browse the gallery of pics I took in different locations!

Part 1: Dresden

A good pre-SIHH event can't start without a walk in the streets of Dresden. Even if I know very well the city, it is always for me a great pleasure to plunge into its charm and to visit its most famous monuments. The first day, I decided to not have a lunch at a restaurant but to take advantage of the Xmas markets to enjoy pork sausages and hot wine! Please find below some pics taken during two long afternoon walks. The hotel was located in the Neustadt (new city) area: The Dreikönigskirche: A f

Striking report and fine watch..

I like it ,I don t go mad about it but its fine. As I said before ,the old Luna Mundi set has a strength and character difficult to beat. This watch is in the line of the new Grande Lange,it lost personality to blend more with the rest of the collection, but it gained elegance and sobriety, like the rest of the collection.... Thanks FX for the great report. Mo

You are raising an important point Mo.

There is many times a kind of choice to make between a pure style and a style with character. When I shot the two watches together, I couldn't decide if one was more beautiful or more attractive than the other. But be sure that I appreciate at least as much the personality of the Luna Mundi than the elegance and quiet beauty of the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phases. Fx

Here are some wristshots taken during my walks in Dresden. I couldn't choose a better watch than this Cabaret for this stay in Saxony! Fx

Part 3: the Lange boutique

Like during the previous year, I did a quick visit at the Lange boutique. I was warmly welcomed by the staff. This boutique, the first Lange boutique in the world, is located right in the historical center of Dresden. It is of course a must-visit! The first Lange collection as presented in 1994: I shot several watches during my visit: The Richard Lange boutique: The Richard Lange Tourbillon PLM: The PG Zeitwerk: The 1815 chronograph: And the Tourbillon PLM... the first steps of the brand with a

Part 4: the Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon

The Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon is a superb museum located inside the Zwinger dedicated to scientific instruments, terrestrial and celestial globes and historic clocks. I visited it for the first time in 2005 but since then it was closed to be renovated during 6 years. It re-opened its doors this year. The pre-SIHH event gave me the opportunity to visit it again in its renovated rooms and I must confess I didn't regret it! There are basically 3 main parts of the museum: - large telescopes
