Christianch, a long-time watch collector, shares his first foray into the world of high-end clocks with the L'Épée 1839 Hot Balloon. His detailed review highlights the clock's innovative design, versatile display options, and exceptional craftsmanship, offering a unique perspective on why this particular piece captivated him over other L'Épée creations. This article explores the allure of horological art beyond the wrist.
I have always been fascinated by clocks, though I never bought one despite owning many watches. Recently, some excellent YouTube videos like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fuw4bYM0Qyg really showcased the craftsmanship of L’Épée 1839. My local trusted AD has become an authorized distributor for L’Épée 1839, so I finally decided to purchase my first clock: the L’Épée Hot Balloon 🎈🎈.
Let me tell you, this clock is truly a masterpiece. The concept is not just innovative but also incredibly elegant. The design, inspired by the first hot air balloons, combines visible mechanical parts with beautifully finished metal elements. Turning the basket winds the movement, and the flame-shaped indicator shows the hours and minutes, all adding to the charm and uniqueness of this piece.
One of the most impressive features is its versatility in display options. It can sit on a desk or hang from the ceiling, appearing to float in mid-air, thanks to a cleverly integrated suspension system. This aspect was a big selling point for me as it adds an extra dimension to the clock's presence.
The craftsmanship is superb, and, importantly for me, the clock is not too loud. Initially, I considered the grenade clock, but I decided against it because I don't prefer weapon-themed items. The Hot Balloon, with its dreamy, adventurous spirit, captivated me much more.
I absolutely love the Hot Balloon clock. The meticulous attention to detail and the innovative design make it a standout piece.🎈
Thanks for watching!

I love the way ones like the balloon and jellyfish can be suspended. Congrats on the acquisition!!!
Can you suspend it from the ceiling at home? Very cool!
The Jellyfish clock made for MB&F also hangs too. I think putting it on the table is a good idea. As it will be easier to dust. Baccarat makes a chandelier with an umbrella which I thought was a good idea! Because the umbrella will help reduce the dust accumulating on the chandelier!
I was looking into some of the Epee clocks as well, they are both serious mechanical wonders and fun pieces to own. Enjoy your balloon 🎈
the chance to see it!! fits very nicely on the top of my piano so for now I won't hang it !
