La Chaux-de-Fonds, 27 October 2010 - We are deeply saddened to announce that Mr. Luigi Macaluso, Chairman of SOWIND GROUP (Girard-Perregaux and JEANRICHARD), has unexpectedly passed away.


Luigi Macaluso, affectionately known as "Gino" by those closest to him, was born in Turin, Italy, in 1948. He was married to Monica and the father of four children, Stefano, Massimo, Anna and Margherita. More than 10 years ago, his two sons joined him at the head of SOWIND GROUP.

An architect, former motor racing driver and visionary entrepreneur, he had been behind the wheel of Girard-Perregaux since 1992. A firm believer in the value of an authentic Haute Horlogerie Manufacture, he pioneered the development of an integrated production strategy.  A charismatic leader, he was able to make SOWIND GROUP an essential player in Swiss Haute Horlogerie.

Stefano and Massimo Macaluso will strive to perpetuate his vision for this company of which he was so fond, and to continue the many projects that he had initiated with passion.

La Chaux-de-Fonds, le 27 octobre 2010 - Nous avons la profonde tristesse d'annoncer le décès inattendu de Monsieur Luigi Macaluso, Président de SOWIND GROUP (Girard-Perregaux et JEANRICHARD).

 

Luigi Macaluso, affectueusement appelé « Gino » par ses proches, était né à Turin, en Italie, en 1948. Il était marié à Monica et père de quatre enfants, Stefano, Massimo, Anna et Margherita. Il y a plus de 10 ans, ses deux fils l'avaient rejoint à la tête de SOWIND GROUP.

 

Architecte, ancien pilote automobile et entrepreneur visionnaire, il était aux commandes de Girard-Perregaux depuis 1992. Fermement convaincu de la valeur d'une authentique Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie, il fut pionnier dans le développement d'une stratégie de production intégrée. Leader charismatique, il a su faire de SOWIND GROUP un acteur incontournable de la Haute Horlogerie suisse.

 

Stefano et Massimo Macaluso s'attacheront à perpétuer sa vision pour cette entreprise qu'il affectionnait tant et à poursuivre les nombreux projets qu'il avait initiés avec passion.

really sorry to hear

a big loss to the world of high horology. i have always liked GP and respected them for keeping true to their value of using in house movements and delivering great value for money, esp compared to the marketing and pricing strategies of their counterparts in recent years. may he rest in peace.

Sad and shocking news

Hi, It is always sad to learn a death, especially when unexpected. It is even more difficult to admit when you learn the death of a very active, passionate and respectable man. I'm sad for his family, friends and for all at Sowind. Thank you Dr Macaluso for all you've done for your industry, your company and for us all fans of horology. As is the tradition in Italy at such times, let us all applaud for your life and career. My sincerest condolences to the Macaluso family. Dje
