Emmanuel, known as quattro on WatchProSite, presents a compelling horological dilemma, inviting collectors to weigh in on two distinct tourbillon masterpieces: the Laurent Ferrier Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral and the Patek Philippe Ref. 5101R-001. His personal inclination towards the Patek Philippe's shaped case, despite his admiration for the Laurent Ferrier's movement aesthetics and winding pleasure, sets the stage for a nuanced discussion on design, horological significance, and wearability.

if I had to choose, the Patek. That art deco case is irresistible!
The Patek dial looks better to me. And I adore Art Deco. But the watch itself is so long that it looks oversized on my wrist. The 5124G with salmon dial and the 5124J with the white dial look so good on my wrist - should've bought those! The LF fits well on my wrist. And I adore the movement. But, I don't like the "TOURBILLON DOUBLE SPIRAL" text on the dial personally.
I really prefer round watches over rectangular watches
Both are gorgeous examples, and incomparable imo. And I'm not even a tourby fan 😉
I personally preferred the 5100. But I think the 5101 would probably have an excessive lug-to-lug for my wrist. Like you, I’m not fond of the writing on the dial of the LF. But the movement is wonderful and I suspect that the winding experience is greater than on the Patek. Best, Emmanuel
But my experience with the 5098 is so strong that I really feel attracted to the case of the 5101. I’ve never seen it in real life, though. Best, Emmanuel
