In this insightful post, 'enjoythemusic' introduces the MB&F LM Sequential Flyback EVO, an evolution of the GPHG Aiguille d’Or-winning LM Sequential EVO. The author highlights how Stephen McDonnell's continued innovation has enhanced an already groundbreaking double chronograph with new flyback functionality and design refinements. This article explores the technical advancements and aesthetic considerations that make this timepiece a significant development for collectors.

This just in:

Dear Steven,

When MB&F unveiled the LM Sequential EVO in 2022, it rewrote the rules of mechanical chronographs. The 585-component calibre created with independent watchmaker Stephen McDonnell was in fact a double chronograph, featuring the groundbreaking ‘Twinverter’ binary switch, offering an unprecedented combination of timing modes: independent, split-second, lap timer and cumulative timing, all united in a single movement. The hand-finished dual column-wheel chronograph system also featured patented internally-jewelled vertical clutch shafts, outperforming conventional chronographs on energy efficiency and precision. For all those reasons, the LM Sequential EVO received the ultimate prize: the GPHG Aiguille d’Or for Best Watch of the Year.

But that wasn’t quite enough for Stephen McDonnell. After two further years of development – and a few extra components, bringing the calibre total to 621 – he raised the bar even further: flyback functionality on both chronographs. First applied to two classic editions, the Flyback now brings an important upgrade to the EVO collection.

The new LM Sequential Flyback EVO combines flyback functionality with the full EVO repertoire designed for an active lifestyle: 80 metres of water resistance, integrated rubber strap, screw-down crown, and the FlexRing shock absorber. And there’s an additional feature: the signature MB&F tilted time dial, which was not included in the original EVO editions but did appear on the classic LM Sequential Flybacks for improved legibility, now makes its debut in the LM Sequential Flyback EVO.

The new LM Sequential Flyback EVO is crafted in grade 5 titanium, paired with an aquamarine dial plate.

As always, we look forward to your feedback.

Best regards,
