Amanico's deep dive into the Montblanc 1858 Split Seconds Chronograph highlights a watch that captivated him from its 2019 debut, with the 2020 titanium and blue enamel edition only intensifying his admiration. His post serves as a testament to the allure of this particular reference, inviting the community to appreciate its unique appeal beyond conventional luxury watch narratives. This article explores why this Montblanc model resonates so strongly with collectors.

New, I don't know since I fell in love from the first minute I saw it in 2019.

And the 2020 edition, with its titanium case and blue enamel dial doesn't help a lot to forget it!

Even if I still have to see this last iteration in the real life, just to be sure...

Best,

Nicolas

The movement and finish are sublime of course. But IMO there is a branding issue: being co-branded (Minerva-Montblanc) and with a wide range of finishes and price points, the package is difficult to read for most people who are not die-hard movement fans.

It is really the opposite for customers: Patek 6007 (if that is the reference you are talking about) with a basic movement, a relatively high entry price and an even stronger resale value. Outside of the usual Patek-Rolex sports suspects, there is still serious value to be found in the 2nd hand market for real enthusiasts.

To much people go to fast for Patek Philippe. Their mistake to skip the depth of tru Swiss watchmaking is their problem. They look only invest value, and forget watch love. Sure Montblanc have to work shake off the write gear only theme. But for me no problem to be proud for Montblanc. But as any time, so much watches, the competition is heavy. But with Minerva heritage, i will keep on looking when my chance comes, hit the right Minerva time peace.

Titanium also gives the watch certain ('tool-ish'?) character.

was the first logo they used on their fountain pens next to the Montblanc star; the discontinued Villeret edition has a different logo as you can see in various posts. When they launched the 1858 collection they decided to use this very old logo with the mountain massive integrated in the brand name

I will, I just see pens sometimes, I am sorry!!! That is wrong of me, I know that, sometimes it’s hard to β€œshake” associations. But otherwise a beautiful piece, of funds were unlimited.... but they are not. I am a tad bit picky in what I get.
