Robin (jrwong23) shares his profound enthusiasm for the Montblanc 1858 Tachymeter Chronograph, emphasizing its captivating blue dial and overall aesthetic. His post, complemented by stunning photography, delves into the watch's wearability and stylistic versatility, particularly in challenging climates. Robin's personal experience highlights the watch's ability to deliver immense joy, even alongside esteemed pieces from other luxury brands.

The Rolex Bubble Back, reference 1858, represents an early example of Rolex's self-winding waterproof wristwatches. This reference is part of the broader Bubble Back family, characterized by its distinctive domed case back designed to accommodate the thicker automatic movement of the era. It showcases Rolex's foundational efforts in developing robust and reliable automatic timepieces for everyday wear, laying groundwork for future Oyster Perpetual models.
This particular reference features an 18k white gold case, measuring 38mm in diameter. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal, protecting a silver dial. The watch is powered by an automatic movement, specifically the Boucheron 1858 caliber, offering a power reserve of 42 hours. The fixed bezel and leather strap complete the watch's classic presentation.
For collectors, the reference 1858 holds interest as an early and relatively rare iteration within the Bubble Back series, especially in white gold. Its larger case size for the period also makes it appealing to modern tastes. The presence of a date complication adds to its functionality, distinguishing it from simpler time-only Bubble Back models and highlighting Rolex's early integration of practical features.
Robin, there\'s ALWAYS a heatwave in Singapore! ;-) It is gorgeous. Yum. (Quite thick, though.) How do you feel about the hands on the sub-registers? In pics they look a bit flat, like they were just stamped out and that was it. I\'m guessing that\'s just in close-up photos, though. I\'m curious to see the watch on a metal bracelet or rubber strap - keep us posted with how you get on. I know all about the problems of leather in hot and humid climates (which is why I\'m curious about the new VC O
A navy blue canvas??? Or a Nato, for the fun? I am more serious about the Canvas. Best, Nicolas
Which is not a common size. So, finding a canvas in not that easy, and even less easy in 21 mm. Best, Nicolas
Getting some blue support back tomorrow (the LUC Chrono One returning from the spa and a blue strap for the LUC Sport) but not much explanation is needed to see why you find it hard to take the 1858 off your wrist I\'m personally not a fan of rubber straps but can see why you\'d want one in Singapore... Let us know how you decide!
proposed for a 5130P What do you think about it (found on mister chrono offer). Wear your MB in best of health (indoors). Cheers, Patrickh
Almost all my watches are in leather straps as they are the more classical and higher finished ones. They work well for office wear so no issues with the climate. Today is a weekend so I spent more time outdoors (those pics were taken in my church compound) - for outdoor activities in Singapore I will need my Breguet or Rolex I think a rubber strap won\'t look so good with this watch on second thoughts Yeah I think the hands on the sub registers are rather flat/ stamped Cheers Robin
