jrwong23's report on Montblanc's SIHH 2014 novelties in Singapore offers a unique, intimate perspective on the brand's direction and community engagement. This post captures the excitement and collector insights from a local event, highlighting Montblanc's strategic focus on value and classicism in its new collections.
Dear all
This evening, Montblanc and PuristSPro jointly organized a dinner in Singapore where Purists were invited to see and try on Montblanc's 2014 novelties in the metal.
The private dinner was held in Montblanc Singapore's Mandarin Gallery flagship boutique (my favorite hang out place when I am stressed out at work or by my 3 kids...)
Around 25 Purists attended this cosy event - it's like a dinner in a family atmosphere.
Mr Andreas Boesch, MD of Montblanc South East Asia and PuristSPro's Horogasm jointly hosted us for this dinner and timepieces showcase.
If I am not wrong, we are the first country in Asia to try on the 2014 novelties! As we have read from the various posts about Montblanc in SIHH 2014, the novelties this year are strong statements of intent by Montblanc to "Share the Passion for Fine Watchmaking" - beautiful and well crafted timepieces focusing on timeless classicism at very reasonable price points, so more people at various stages of watch appreciation and collection can find a Montblanc timepiece they love (and pragmatically are willing to spend on).
Here are some pictures we took at the dinner. I love such cosy events with Purists, friendly Montblanc staff and of course, lovely timepieces we can try on and appreciate.
Personally, as a Montblanc collector, I was very happy to catch up with Andreas and his team, sharing my thoughts and appreciation of Montblanc's 2014 pieces and also very happy to catch up with fellow Purists on Montblanc's watches. I was hoping that the Homage to Nicolas Rieussec would fit my small wrist but it was too big. After tonight, I have set my sights on the Meisterstuck Heritage series instead as they fitted me perfectly from the 39mm Perpetual Calendar to the 41mm Moonphase. I think the Perpetual Calendar is the top on my list amongst this year's collection.
I hope more Purists can see the new Meisterstuck Heritage series in the metal - personally, I believe this new series will sell very well with its quality and value proposition and it also represents a new pillar (and direction) for Montblanc watches. I look forward to Montblanc's 2015 collections already! I would like to thank Montblanc Singapore and the Purists team who organized this dinner and hosted us tonight. We all had a great time!
Enjoy the pictures.
cheers

Pre dinner setup
Entrance to the 2nd floor where the dinner was held
Sharing the Passion for Fine Watchmaking
The grand entrance to the cosy flagship boutique in Singapore
Pretty cool reception
The menu. Yummy but not as yummy as the watches!
My (lifetime) companions for tonight. Representing all product pillars of Montblanc
Pre dinner preview
Very passionate boutique staff explaining the novelties
Voted as the most popular watch for tonight - the Meisterstück Heritage Pulsograph with the beautifully hand finished Minerva Monopusher calibre 13.21
Comparing the Meisterstück Heritage Pulsograph with my Montblanc Villeret - both having the Minerva 13.21 calibre
My personal favorite tonight - the Meisterstück Heritage Perpetual Calendar in rose gold
The Limited Edition Homage to Nicolas Rieussec (alas not on my wrists - if I were endowed with this Purist's wrist, I would have booked this watch tonight
before it got sold out as it's a LE watch)
Commencing dinner (took a long time for all of us to stop looking at the watches and end the preview!)
Kevin (Horogasm) giving the opening speech
Mr Andreas Boesch warmly welcoming us to the Montblanc family dinner
Cosy dinner and viewing the lovely timepieces at the same time - heaven for Purists!
Homage to Nicolas Rieussec together with the NR Rising Hour (which I also like alot personally)
The TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph DLC - actually I like this watch more and more and it fits my small wrists well too. The leather band is very well made and feels very robust! I hope they will extend this leather strap to other MB watches. It is fireproof and waterproof and feels very comfortable.
Still my favorite of the lot... even now I am thinking about it...
The Meisterstück Heritage Moonphase - very elegant and simple. A good alternative to the Perpetual Calendar for those wanting a simplier dial and not into a grand complication
The TimeWalker Chronograph 100 - very very impressive technically but I am not used to the modern looks of a Timewalker coupled with a Villeret movement
The movement of the TimeWalker Chronograph 100 - IMPRESSIVE!
Catalogs can be dangerous my friend. Poison alert!
Something I neglected until towards the end of the dinner, the Star Twin Moonphase. It looks very unique and classical (similar design cues as my Star Worldtime). Love the blued hands!
Steel or rose gold. The steel version is great value as we all know by now but I realized the rose gold version is only 1.7x more expensive than the steel version.
All other watches I know with both a steel and gold version has a price multiplier of 2+x to 3x (from steel to gold version). This makes the rose gold version also great value. Strong feeling one of these will be mine someday!
